In my 6 months at PAG, I’ve learned how important transportation planning is to economic development, quality of life, and the overall vitality of the Tucson region. If you live in the Tucson area and have thoughts on how to prioritize improvements to the region’s roadways, public transportation, cycling and pedestrian infrastructure then you should take this survey.
Pima Association of Governments has launched the Shape Your Transportation Future survey, which allows community members in the greater Tucson region to share their transportation priorities and experiences, and to tell us what types of transportation improvements should be funded over the next 30 years. Survey results will help in the development of PAG’s 2055 Regional Mobility and Accessibility Plan (RMAP), which allows our region to annually secure millions of dollars in federal funding for essential transportation improvements in the region. Your input matters to us. Learn more and take the survey at PAGregion.com/2055

🌍 **Land Subsidence: A Growing Threat** 🌍 Land subsidence, the gradual sinking of ground, is increasingly affecting up to 2 billion people globally. This phenomenon is primarily caused by excessive groundwater removal, which leads to the compaction of subsurface sediments. Urban areas are particularly at risk, with dense populations exacerbating the issue. 📉 **Risks and Consequences**: - Infrastructure damage - Increased flooding risk - Disruption of daily life 🛠️ **Mitigation Strategies**: - Better groundwater management - Adoption of sustainable water practices 🔍 **Global Cases**: - Jakarta, Indonesia: Jakarta is sinking at an alarming rate due to excessive groundwater extraction. Some areas are sinking by up to 25 centimeters per year, exacerbating flood risks. - Mexico City, Mexico: Built on a former lakebed, Mexico City is experiencing significant subsidence due to groundwater depletion, with some parts sinking more than 30 centimeters annually. - San Joaquin Valley, USA: This agricultural region in California has seen subsidence due to groundwater pumping, impacting water infrastructure and agricultural productivity.
