🌟 New Insights into Ending Youth Homelessness 🌟 Thrilled to share this impactful animation presenting findings from a study led by Dr. Naomi Thulien, exploring innovative approaches to support young people with lived experiences of homelessness. The study examined the effects of rent subsidies paired with identity-based coaching: 💥 40 participants: All received rent subsidies. 💥 Coaching focus: Half were randomly selected for coaching aimed at enhancing identity capital, including purpose, control, self-efficacy, and self-esteem. The results highlight the potential of combining financial and identity-based interventions to empower youth and foster sustainable independence. Special thanks to the Making the Shift Youth Homelessness Social Innovation Lab for funding this vital work and supporting innovative solutions to end youth homelessness. 👉 Watch the animation to see the impact for yourself, and join the conversation in the comments! https://lnkd.in/gsmuQtDs #YouthHomelessness #SocialInnovation #EvidenceBased #MakingTheShift #ResearchImpact

Over the past 4 months I had the opportunity to co-develop the National Youth Advisory Group of the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness (USICH) National Youth Homelessness Partnership, which is a group of 15 young adults across the country with lived expertise in youth & young adult homelessness and professional expertise doing systems change work on the local, state, and national level. We developed the recruitment and onboarding process and the interviewing of 96 young adults. This week I was privileged to have the opportunity to co-moderate a 3 day National Youth Homelessness Partership Convening with Dr. Alex Wagaman. We had a room full of Federal, national, and young adult partners who came with the mutual commitment to co-develop a plan to address youth homelessness in the nation. During our time we radically imagined what our collective priorities could be and began, what I forsee in the future, a strong partnership and commitment to addressing youth homelessness. We know that change and developing partnerships take work and that it means we must also sit in principle struggle with one another. We also know that discomfort is necessary in the growth process. I was so proud to see the young leaders boldly and shamelessly show up with unwavering passion, commitment, and knowledge. I couldn't help but smile from ear to ear seeing them in action. I love that I can be a catalyst for them and support them in any way that I can so that their voices, expertise, and knowledge can be lifted. SN: Imagine a group picture of national, federal, and young adult professionals with lived expertise. 😂😂😂 Waiting for photo consent. . . . #systemschange #partnerships #national #federal #nationalplan #socialimpact #transformational #professionalswithlivedexpertise #socialjustice #collectiveaccountability

Back to School, But Different for Some 🎒 As kids head back to school, remember this time of year is filled with challenges for those without stable housing. In the DC region, families represent 36% of all people experiencing homelessness, many of them with students who: - lack basic essentials like clothes, shoes and backpacks - struggle with being on time or making it to school - miss out on a good night's sleep, making it hard to focus in class. Homeless students are 87% more likely to drop out of school and only 64% graduate. This back-to-school season, let's be more aware of the problem of homelessness and what it looks like. #WhatHomelessLooksLike #BackToSchool #HomelessStudents #EndHomelessness #PathwayHomes
