Today as we celebrate #earthday I would like to introduce you to a group of individuals who have a #plan for climate change and for their #future. Smallholder #farmers! I say #individuals because farming is a family business that requires an individual's hard work, risk and perseverance in the face of uncertainty. There are no guarantees and no safety net, but the reward of farming is #sovereignty. Freedom to set your own hours, experiment, work in the fresh air and bring the earth to life - producing food that gives life. All month Trees for the Future has highlighted farmers across Africa that have a plan for #climatechange, offsetting carbon, adapting to a changing weather and rainfall patterns, growing diverse #crops, and creating mini ecosystems and microclimates on their 1-2 acre plots of land. I say #group of individuals because although these farmers are separated by borders, languages, and tribes, they have one thing in common. They are NOT waiting for others to have a plan - they have developed their own plan, that involves implementing a #forestgarden.
