Achieving Article 9 status under the Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR) might seem straightforward for a fund focused on tech startups driving the green energy transition. After all, environmental impact is at the core of every company we invest in. However, the reality is far more complex. The regulation is still new and evolving, with compliance requiring a significant effort to navigate the intricate requirements and ensure transparency in reporting. Aligning with Article 9 demands not only robust impact metrics but also meticulous documentation to meet regulatory expectations. As the regulatory landscape develops, we’re learning, adapting, and refining our approach to ensure we remain leaders in sustainability while supporting innovative startups in transforming the energy sector. The cleantech revolution continues to gain speed as transformative projects secure funding to address the planet’s toughest energy and sustainability challenges. 🌿 This week, we’re spotlighting three major milestones driving progress in the clean energy transition: ✨ U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) – With a $31M investment into 42 FAIR program research projects, the DOE is championing diversity and collaboration to unlock new breakthroughs in STEM and accelerate the clean energy transition. ✨ Invest International has committed €1M to the design phase of Madoqua’s €1.3bn green hydrogen and ammonia project in Portugal, a key investment supported by European Hydrogen Bank funding to accelerate renewable hydrogen production and drive Europe’s energy transition. ✨ Paebbl – Celebrating a major milestone in the construction of its Rotterdam demo plant, Paebbl is transforming CO2 into carbon-storing materials. X-ELIO’s Chief Operating Officer, Fernando Lacaci, participated today in the Energyear 2024 event, sharing insights on the necessary roadmap and value chain for a renewable Europe alongside other industry experts. 🔋 🗣 Fernando Lacaci highlighted: "We find ourselves under a complex situation when it comes to the energy industry value chain since the outbreak of the war. It is essential to define what we want to do and draw a clear roadmap, always bearing in mind that this cannot lead to an increase in CAPEX which will inevitably lead to an increase in electricity prices. In Europe, we are making positive progress through local support, the development of hubs, permitting processes, among other key aspects. However, looking at the numbers, there is a gap between European demand and our production capacity in major components. This mismatch presents us with a significant challenge that we must address with determination and innovative strategies."
