Happy Monday! A week or so ago, I was judging the Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards. Now the tables have turned, as I started this week by finalising my submissions for the 2024 ROAR Awards. When I first started my business, the idea of entering business awards made me feel ick. But now I see the value of entering them. They're definitely a great way to review the ups and downs I've had in my business. Do you enter business awards? #businessawards #businessowner

Thank you, and a post full of gratitude doesn't do enough to begin to describe how much everyone's attendance meant to our team last week. At the CAAR office, we are looking at the convention as a kickoff, and based on your responses, the feeling is mutual. The new CAAR is out of the gate with incredible sponsors, networking, education, and more advocacy work to come. Those of you in attendance heard it several times, for those of you who are attending next years conference... HERE IS WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU: 1) We value your time, and energy - when we send an email it will be full of important information. Please take time to open and engage with us. This is how we build our voice, and ensure YOU are heard. - ensure you are an up to date/active member - ensure we have your correct email IF you haven't seen something from us lately 2) Call, email, or walk up and shake our hand at events. We are your member based organization. Retailer, supplier, and everyone else that's involved. We are here to be of service to you, and we hate guessing. Tell us what you need, and we will work to build out solutions. 3) Planning has begun for next convention, we will announce dates and plans to build off the momentum. Watch for our announcements, share them with your network, and help us make this member driven organization a powerful voice that "Empowers an Industry". Here is an in person thank you from Myrna Grahn, watch for her updates from Ottawa and Markham next week as we continue #CAARinAction.

AWARDS AND 'AWARDS' I do often talk about awards as it's a 'thing' in the world of the media and PR and there are a lot of fakes out there. Awards can be fantastic for credibility and they can help others have confidence in you. They can also be very important for your team and to show you take your own business seriously. I've entered numerous awards, I've judged awards and I've won a couple. And I'm proud of that. There are very strong views around what makes a good award - and these views can be quite stringent. Some people believe the best awards are given by a panel of judges who look at every entry and judge against criteria - for me this usually shows a valid and credible awards opportunity. Yet on the other hand there can be a perception that if you 'know' the judges or you sponsor an award - you are far more likely to win. I believe both scenarios can be accurate so do some due diligence around this. Then there are awards where people 'vote' for their 'favourites'. Some don't like that kind of award but I don't mind this. When you see the link below - you will see why. However if you are nominated - do check who nominated you? Will they let you know? In this case, I was told and that made sense. Now voting is open. I have won this award before - at the end of 2021 for the year 2022 - and the world was a very different place then. I think the key thing around awards is money. It should not cost loads to enter an award - it might cost some. Any award should not hang on you having to attend a high price event to 'get' your award and you should not have to pay to display a logo or any asset which shows your status as a shortlisted person or as a winner of any kind. There should be no hidden fees, it should be open and upfront with clear parameters where you can make clear choices. And if you feel you know me or my work, or that of my team, then feel free to vote for me, or others: https://lnkd.in/e-DePhxu

I’m about to share some normally private business information…. Every weekend as part of BlackBelt Accountants I share with members amongst other things my 3 biggest wins of the past week. This is a great way to focus and take a step back from the whirlwind of business life and think about some of the great things that have been achieved. Sometimes I’ve been thinking that not much has been achieved, but when I look back I’m surprised at what’s actually been done, and it’s a great way to end the week with some positive thoughts. My 3 biggest wins of this past week were….. 🙌 2 great new client sign ups + positive meeting with an existing client to discuss completing monthly management accounts for them in future. 🙌 Finished our new pricing packages for inclusion on our website and Ignition. Thank you Heather Townsend, Mario De-Crescenzo and fellow members of The Accountants' Growth Club for valuable input. 🙌 Some great networking - Appointed vice-chair of Lanarkshire Business Group + Attended partner event at #TheHive 🐝, a Business North Lanarkshire supported business centre for women in our local North Lanarkshire Council area. Looking back, I’m realising I’ve actually had a cracking week last week! 😊 What were your biggest wins of the past week? I’d love to hear them and create some positive vibes 😎 #business #wins #positivity

This 🤯every time I see the numbers. Are you pulling your hair out trying to grow your membership? Watch this short video for some insights. Thanks for positing Matt Appenzeller #memberforcast #joinsoca #chambersofcommerce
CEO/President at Southern Ohio Chamber Alliance & SOCA Benefit Plan administered by Anthem | We cultivate partner relationships, drive value for employers, and drive membership & non-dues revenue for Chambers of Commerce
During my 11 years leading SOCA, I have heard stories from Chamber Execs who were pressured by their Board of Directors to grow membership to unrealistic levels based on their service area. That's why we created the MemberForecast for our Chambers of Commerce. This 5-minute video could save you and your Board a lot of time, effort, frustration and burnout before you try doubling your membership. Chamber on!
