Reaching a State of Prime Association Performance https://bit.ly/3wWDgua Summary Thoughts: For associations, success is measured by impact. You want to ensure that your work stays relevant for members and makes real changes for your industry or community — and to do that you need to ensure you’re operating in a stable, viable way. But achieving that stability is challenging when the critical components that can drive your success, from the technology you adopt to the leadership that guides you, exist in silos. In this article, Marcie Bomberg-Montoya brings her more than 25 years of experience in executive leadership roles in both financial institutions and nonprofit organizations and shares her thoughts on how associations should monitor and strive to achieve an optimized state of performance. Check it out! #AssnChat

Business or Family? On the last day of school, staff were asked to reflect on this question: "Is our school a business or a family?". What would be the answer for you and others in your organisational context? This question reminded me of Simon Sinek's video below. I showed this video to a newly formed staff team on our first day of working together over two years ago. Some new staff had come in especially for this first planning day, and we spent time unpacking our College's vision, mission and values together. A caption on one of my slides was: Making Culture Stick in our Pioneer Team Family. We took a group photo together and joked about being family - brothers and sisters. Fast forward twelve months and we had some new staff join this team from other schools, and they also came in especially for a planning day. This time, two teams competed against each other in a team building activity. Halfway through, I made some people switch teams. There was frustration and competitiveness, but I think (or at least hope) people had fun. Again, we took a group photo plus pics of the two competing teams. Another year has passed and I am moving from this team to work in a different role. As we gathered to share Christmas cards and gifts, I showed them photos from when our current team met a year earlier. They laughed about the competition, and remembered how I made them switch teams. Then I reminded them of the point of the activity, which I also shared at the time: We are all on the same team. There are no winners or losers (yes, I was thinking of Sinek's The Infinite Game). We never know when things might change and we should always be prepared for that. And then I realised it was time to listen to my own advice. I had grown to love this work 'family' so much that I didn't want to move on. To quote Sinek, "I care desperately about the people here as if they were my family", and I didn't want to lose that sense of community. Did I have tears saying end-of-year farewells amidst clearing everything from my desk? Yes. Did I receive some much-needed compassion as I moved everything from my car to my new desk? Yes. Do I love my job? Yes. Do I love the people I work with whether I chose them or not? Yes. Are they a business or family? By now you should know the answer. And I wouldn't want it any other way. Here's to getting to know my new work team 'family' as I transition to Head of Wellbeing - Graduate Phase in 2025! #Leadership #OrganisationalCulture #SimonSinek #InfiniteGame

Family Business Magazine recently shared some insights on co-leadership in a family business. … Started right here from a conversation on LinkedIn. It’s interesting commentary because co-leadership often leads to disagreements. Many advise against it because it takes a great deal of effort to do it well. Here’s a quick quote that I particularly appreciated: “Fight about the vision, don't fight about the tactics.” Read the full article below, and let me know your thoughts. https://lnkd.in/eJC9st_K
