A Coca-Cola employee tried to offer Pepsi trade secrets in 2006 in exchange for a $1.5 million payment. The competitive edge of Coca-Cola might have been significantly harmed by the secret information. But Pepsi surprised everyone by alerting Coca-Cola right away, displaying honesty in a competitive market. Joya Williams, the employee, was detained and given an eight-year prison sentence as a result of her activities. This episode demonstrated not just how fiercely competitive two of the largest beverage companies in the world are, but also how moral behaviour in the business world transcends rivalries. In addition to upholding industry norms, Pepsi's choice to notify Coca-Cola served as an example of corporate responsibility. It serves as a potent reminder that, despite intense competition, business ethics are important.

In 2006, a Coca-Cola employee attempted to sell valuable trade secrets to Pepsi for a staggering $1.5 million. This incident could have led to significant damage for Coca-Cola, potentially compromising its competitive edge. However, Pepsi's response was both swift and honorable. Instead of taking advantage of the situation, Pepsi chose to inform Coca-Cola about the offer. This act of integrity was a clear demonstration of the principles that guide ethical business practices, even in the face of competition. Pepsi's decision to notify Coca-Cola, rather than exploit the opportunity, speaks volumes about corporate responsibility and the importance of maintaining trust in the business world. It showed that, even in a fiercely competitive market, some lines should never be crossed.

During this past spring quarter at UCSB, I took a business strategy (TMP 120) course within the Technology Management Department. My team and I had the opportunity to take a real-world company and choose a new strategic application to make the brand even more successful! So, I'd like to share the end result of our project! We chose the non-alcoholic beer company Athletic Brewing Company and diligently made an action plan for them to expand into the mocktail industry, creating the product Oasips. Oasips is an alcohol-free beverage that has added health benefits. An example of one of the limited flavors would be the Mighty Mule (Moscow Mule flavor with real ginger, making it an immune booster). This project was a lot of fun and I learned an extensive amount about business strategy, particularly how to leverage one's competitive advantages and seek new opportunities. Thank you to Eric Zackrison for being an excellent professor and providing incredible guidance this entire quarter. I plan to complete the Technology Management Certification and learn even more in this industry! If you're interested to see the details of our project, I've attached the presentation slides that lay out my team's work for this case. #businessstrategy #UCSB #technologymanagement #communication https://lnkd.in/gejdtZ6q

Chrissy Miller recently asked me about how I applied whiskey distilling in my career. Reflecting on that provided unexpected insights: While a Brand Ambassador for Diageo, I earned my General Certificate in Distilling (GCD). Armed with knowledge bombs, I was ready to sell. But did it help? My technical knowledge often disengaged my audience. Diving into distilling science was unnecessary to establishing credibility. Being in the field, I already had credibility. My channel partners needed to know my brand's ICP and effective sales messaging. My clients needed a few fun talking points and a compelling way to describe my brand to their customers. The GCD taught me to tailor messaging. Give the needed information in the simplest, clearest way. Teach partners and customers which information is needed at different stages of the sales cycle. Tailor the details to specific personas to maximize impact. Effective selling involves helping other people. Help them by giving them only what they need. ✅ Tell me about what experience enhanced your sales messaging in the comments! #sales #selling #salesenablement #customersuccess #learning #distilling #spirits #cocktails #whiskey #whisky #GCD
