The Bodaboda Conundrum: Balancing Affordability with Sustainability in Uganda's Agritech Sector. As an Agritechpreneur, I'm passionate about leveraging technology to transform Uganda's agricultural landscape. However, a pressing concern has caught my attention - the proliferation of bodabodas (motorcycle taxis) and their implications on our environment, economy, and future. The Bodaboda Phenomenon: Bodabodas have revolutionized transportation in Uganda, providing livelihoods for thousands. However, their unchecked growth poses significant challenges: 1. Congestion and accidents 2. Environmental degradation (emissions, pollution) 3. Climate change 4. Economic sustainability. As Agritechpreneurs, we must consider the broader ecosystem. How can we: 1. Promote sustainable transportation solutions? 2. Encourage eco-friendly practices in agriculture? 3. Leverage technology for climate-smart agriculture? Let's collaborate to: 1. Develop sustainable transportation infrastructure 2. Invest in eco-friendly bodabodas 3. Enhance rider training and regulation 4. Support climate-resilient agriculture Share your thoughts: - How can we balance affordability with sustainability? - What innovative solutions can we implement? - How can Agritech contribute to a greener future? Let's grow a sustainable future together! #Agritech #Sustainability #Bodaboda #ClimateAction #Uganda #Innovation #GreenFuture

Mission: Cultivating a Food-Secure, Prosperous Kenya While Green Planet Agritech is just beginning our pioneering controlled environment agriculture journey in Kenya, our ambitions extend far beyond just growing nutritious microgreen crops sustainably. We aim to be catalysts for food security, economic empowerment, and self-sufficiency. The Reality: • Over 10 million Kenyans face acute hunger and malnutrition • Rural poverty remains widespread and entrenched • Overreliance on rain-fed agriculture leaves food supply vulnerable Our Vision: Leveraging climate-smart CEA, we'll produce premium microgreens year-round for domestic consumption and export markets. This model insulates harvests from external factors ensuring steady food availability. But we plan to do much more by: Localizing Production Our decentralized CEA facilities near cities cut food wastage while bringing highly nutritious produce rapidly to booming urban populations. Creating Skilled Job Opportunities Though a startup, we're committed to generating sustainable employment and providing comprehensive skills training as we scale up operations. Incubating Agri-Entrepreneurs Our Agripreneur Incubator will nurture and fund the next generation of Kenyan agri-tech innovators pioneering creative farming solutions. While still in our inception stage, the roadmap extends far beyond just our farms. We'll cultivate an ecosystem of food security, economic prosperity, and environmental regeneration for a self-sustaining Kenya. Follow us at: https://lnkd.in/eaHQMNX8 to learn more about our journey. #FoodSovereignty #EcoJobs #AgriTechIncubator #ResilientKenya #GreenPlanetAgritech #GlobalImpact #FarmingForTheFuture #SustainableAg

🌱 Attended an incredible training experience at Lok-Neno farm in North Uganda, where I learned invaluable lessons about regenerative agriculture. The Acholi name for the farm, Lok-Neno "Change Mindset," perfectly captures the transformative nature of this experience. From building muscle memory,(which means digging and more digging😂),to the importance of water conservation in the heat of Africa, every moment was a revelation. I've come to understand that land requires tender loving care, water management, nutrient-rich inputs like manure and leaves et.al. and the symbiotic relationship with fungi, bacteria, and insects to continuously yield more from the land. Protecting the land through mulching and maintaining biodiversity in planting practices is crucial, mimicking the natural forest to create resilient ecosystems. As the saying goes, "It takes all sorts to make a forest." I feel inspired and eager to apply these insights to support caregivers in Malawi as they embrace sustainable agriculture practices. Here's to lifelong learning and making a positive impact in our corner of the earth.🌍 #ClimateSmartAgriculture #LandStewardship #NeverStopLearning

I initiated 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗶 with a mission to bridge 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 and policies with 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, creating sustainable and inclusive solutions for communities. Our first successful Agroecology space was in Viwandani ward (Mukuru informal settlement),Nairobi, where we used phytoremediation to reclaim a landfill, transforming it to a green space 🌿🌿🪴 This week, we established a community garden at the 𝑩𝒓𝒐𝒐𝒌 𝑪𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒓𝒆 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑫𝒆𝒂𝒇 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑨𝒖𝒕𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒄 𝑪𝒉𝒊𝒍𝒅𝒓𝒆𝒏 in collaboration with Gilbert Koskey , WingFarm , Geoffrey Mbugua from Kenya Youth Biodiversity Network,SHOFCO.The fruit trees seedlings were obtained from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) . This garden isn’t just about growing food—it’s about fostering inclusion, empowering people with special needs, and making cities resilient to climate change through agrobiodiversity. We work with local Youth CBOs ensuring the spaces are maintained thus creating employment 💪🏽👨🏽🌾👩🏽🌾 In this case,we worked with Thee Joint Youth CBO in Zimmerman, Nairobi. They are gaining hands-on skills in agroecology, composting and soil health while learning how sustainable farming can drive change. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed their time, expertise and seedlings. Together, we’re turning research into action, one garden at a time. 👌🏽🙏🏽 How are you contributing to a sustainable future? Across the countries and continents, diverse contexts, similar or different challenges, strategies and approaches, you get to learn a lot from your peers and veterans in the space. These are the pertinent questions to ask and ponder over: ◇Are we ready to deal with complexities for what they are? Do we understand their characterizations? Are we equiped with knowlegde and skills on how to address and redress them? How can we move away from rhetorics and buzz words into real action? Are there adequate capacities? Are the available, limited resources well directed? These and many more substantial questions...◇ When there are more questions than answers, we as stakeholders tend to refine our thoughts, ideas and strategies to craft and conceptualize adaptive solutions. It's possible. We can do it! The murkiness in between is our business, all of us, to figure it out. #AgSys #Sustainability #Agri- #FoodSystems #Coalitions #Initiatives #Transformation

Empowering youth with sustainable agricultural practices! 🌱 Through the SAfA Tanzania project, Hanns R. Neumann Stiftung - HRNS Tanzania is equipping young people in our project regions with the knowledge and skills needed to embrace conservation agriculture. As climate change intensifies, the agriculture sector faces growing challenges. HRNS is training youth to adopt resilient farming practices—like using dry grass to cover the soil after vegetable planting. This is an effective method to retain moisture and build healthy humus over time. SAfA Tanzania is a youth-focused project with the aim of empowering over 50,000 Tanzanian youth aged 15-30 in the regions of Arusha, Kilimanjaro, Mbeya and Songwe, by enhancing their livelihood prospects. The project is a consortium of three implementing partners, Deutsche Stiftung Weltbevoelkerung (DSW) Tanzania, Hanns R. Neumann Stiftung - HRNS Tanzania and Kühne Foundation Tanzania , and is being funded by Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and SAfA gGmbH. Together, we’re working towards a greener, more sustainable future! #ConservationAgriculture #ClimateAction #YouthEmpowerment"

𝐔𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡, 𝐊𝐚𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐡 𝐀𝐭𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐍𝐚𝐢𝐁𝐀𝐍 KaFresh, a Ugandan agritech firm, has secured an investment from the Nairobi Business Angel Network(NaiBAN) to advance its innovative all-natural spray coating technology that extends the shelf life of produce without refrigeration. The technology, inspired by founder Jean-Paul Nageri's childhood experiences with his father's farming challenges, addresses a critical issue in Sub-Saharan Africa, where studies show that 80.4% of food losses occur during storage, handling, and transportation, with perishable items suffering losses of up to 55.9%. The company's solution, available in 500ml and 200ml packages, uses plant extracts to create a thin, soluble coating that preserves fruits, vegetables, and flowers at room temperature, eliminating the need for cold storage facilities. The NaiBAN investment will enable KaFresh to scale its operations, improve its technology, and expand its reach across Africa and potentially into international markets. #AgritechInnovation #FoodSecurity #PostHarvestLoss #KaFresh #NaiBAN #SustainableFarming #AfricanStartups #AgriTechSolutions
