A Hot Weather Alert for PJM’s Mid-Atlantic and Southern regions has been extended to July 10 as 90-degree weather continues in those areas. A Hot Weather Alert is currently in effect for July 9 for the same regions. A Hot Weather Alert is a routine procedure PJM issues ahead of forecasted 90-degree weather and/or high humidity in order to prepare transmission and generation personnel and facilities for expected increases in electricity demand. Following Typhoon Yagi, heavy rains and flooding impaired mobile communication systems across northern provinces. By September 11, 639 mobile transmission towers were impacted; 441 had been repaired, helping to restore services in many areas. The Department of Information and Communications in Yen Bai noted the severe damage, and to maintain connectivity, telecom providers were instructed to enable network roaming. In Lang Son, the number of non-operational BTS stations decreased from 77 to 32, while in Cao Bang, 112 out of 122 affected stations were restored. Flooding also damaged 18 optical fiber lines and 40 transmission equipment pieces. Local authorities are focused on clearing roads and restoring power, a critical step for full telecommunications recovery.
