GAZA: New report tabled to the HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL Please consider reviewing On 26 March 2024, Francesca Albanese presented her report “Anatomy of a Genocide”, to the 55th session of the Human Rights Council in which she concludes: ‘There are reasonable grounds to believe that the threshold indicating the commission of the crime of genocide has been met.’  Amnesty International is bring additional depth. Amnesty’s decades of documenting violations of international law in the Occupied Palestinian Territories and Israel means it is well-placed to respond when the latest escalation of violence in the world’s longest occupation occurred. The severity and significance of this chapter of fighting is unprecedented. Amnesty remains one of two international human rights organisations on-the-ground. The genocide claim is a baseless, cynical and malicious lie. Palestinian population increased by some 500% since the founding of Israel in 1948. The contention that Israel is committing genocide is manufactured to vilify and delegitimize Israel by those who seek to see it destroyed. The goal of the current Israeli operation is the destruction of the actually genocidal Hamas, not of Palestinians. If Israel had wanted to commit genocide, it wouldn’t need to risk Israeli lives by sending in ground troops. Palestinian casualties represent the ugly nature of warfare, specifically under Hamas’ blatant disregard for any human life - not an intention to eliminate the Palestinians. Misusing the term ‘genocide’ for malicious political ends undermines the cause of human rights globally, and is particularly egregious when leveled at Israel since the term was originally coined as a result of the very real Nazi genocide of the Jews. https://lnkd.in/eQcActkd

The framers of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights foresaw scenarios where national courts would not handle cases involving abuse of executive power, and knew citizens would need an avenue of recourse after exhausting domestic mechanisms. The African Court on Human and Peoples' Rights was an effort to institutionalize norms and human rights standards for Africans: https://lnkd.in/ejrjjcss These norms and standards have come under renewed strain in recent years, with captured or co-opted national judiciaries proving the continued need for the Court. Judicial independence is critical to maintaining the impartiality and integrity of electoral commissions. Powerful remarks by the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food to the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva. « Whether it was the occupation of Georgia, whether it was the ethnic cleansing in Nagorno-Karabakh and of course Gaza... If we keep allowing for occupation and we keep allowing for starvation and genocide, we are going to see it more often. Conclit is the main cause of hunger. I’m seeing food being used more and more as a tool of war. The people that suffer the most are always children. The images of starvation in Gaza are unbearable and you are doing nothing. You talk and you talk and you talk. You give us lovely words. HRC hasn't even tried to pass a resolution. At least they are trying in NY. How is it that the HRC is not addressing a situation where we have never seen a civilian population go so hungry so completely? In anytime in modern history, we have never seen children pushed into malnutrition so quickly. This is on your watch. Please turn your words into action. We have heard the call for cease-fire. We know what we need is unhindered humanitarian access. You know what needs to be done. If I can speak to you as individuals, as human beings. I understand the constraints you have of your capital. I understand politics. Arms embargo. Stop sending weapons and money to Israel. Those countries that are sending weapons are complicit in genocide and starvation.... It's time for sanctions. Real action, real pressure. This is what ended apartheid in South Africa, this is what put pressure on the fascist regime in Portugal... ». The illegal and inhumane blockade of Nagorno-Karabakh, the starvation of its people by Azerbaijan between December 2022 and September/October 2023 and the inaction of the international community led to the full ethnic cleaning of this historic Armenian region in the fall of 2023. For months, during the 10 month-long blockade of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), NGOs like Hyestart have called for sanctions against Azerbaijan and an international airlift to save Nagorno-Karabakh and to prevent its ethnic cleansing. In vain. Lovely words were uttered. Yuri Kim of the US state department said that the US would not tolerate ethnic cleansing in Nagorno Karabakh(1). The ICC issued a supposedly binding ruling ordering Azerbaijan to lift the blockade of the Lachin corridor (2). But in the end no real action was taken. And ethnic cleansing was allowed to happen. Impunity, which ensures the continuity of the crimes and denies the victims the right to see justice done, must end.  #EndImpunity #NagornoKarabakh

Dear Friends, Now that the world is voting 94% in favor of the JAZZforPEACE proposal for a cease-fire with funds earmarked for military use redirected to outstanding causes to benefit the people of both communities, what do you think about the idea of taking all of the people who want to destroy Hamas and taking all of the people who want to destroy Israel (meaning Hamas) and putting them together on the same island so that all of the Israelis and Palestinians who do NOT want to be a part of that can live in peace while they receive their much needed and much deserved funding? If you could vote RIGHT NOW for a Cease-Fire. WOULD YOU DO IT? What if it ALSO included FUNDS, for food and help to those in need?  WOULD YOU DO IT? #Iran: In just the past 30 days, 146 people, including 2 children and 3 women, have been executed. Since the beginning of 2024, at least 701 executions have been recorded. These atrocities stem from the regime's fear of popular uprisings and the failure of its warmongering policies in the region. The silence and inaction of the international community have emboldened this regime to continue its crimes. How many more lives must be taken before action is taken?
