🚀 What an Unforgettable Experience at the 2024 Corporate Connections®️ Global Convention! 🚀 Just wrapped up an amazing time at the Corporate Connections Global Convention, and I’m still buzzing from all the incredible moments we shared. 🌟 From insightful talks to the elegant gala dinner, it was an event to remember. Here are some key highlights and insights that stood out: 1. Inspiring Talks: The sessions were filled with wisdom and actionable advice. True humility isn’t thinking less of yourself, it’s thinking of yourself less. This resonated deeply with me and underscored the importance of teamwork and collaboration. 2. Building Relationships: The best takeaway? Keep communicating and helping each other. This accelerates growth and success. It was a pleasure meeting so many brilliant minds and exchanging ideas. 3. Global Perspectives: Learning about the power of storytelling from Taichi, and understanding how our stories define who we are, was incredibly impactful. It reminded me of the importance of surrounding ourselves with extraordinary people to discover extraordinary opportunities. 4. Resilience and Purpose: Hearing firsthand accounts of resilience, especially during challenging times, was motivating. The idea that our sense of achievement is directly proportional to the effort we put in is something I’ll carry with me. 5. Celebrating Success: The gala dinner and awards ceremony were the perfect way to close the event. It was an honor to film this prestigious occasion and capture the achievements of our exceptional Members and Directors. 6. Future Outlook: The discussion on technology advancements and global trends highlighted the need for leaders to adapt and innovate continuously. The intersections of technology streams promise exciting productivity enhancements. A huge thank you to the entire Corporate Connections team for organizing such a stellar event. Commencing my university journey in 2009 coincided with the early stages of significant developments, notably the groundbreaking event strategy initiated by Visit Scotland in 2008. This strategy served as a catalyst for major events... Yesterday, I had the opportunity to engage with over 300 peers, many of whom have played pivotal roles in my career while we attended the National Events Conference. While key points were addressed, the breadth of conversation was understandably limited within the set timeframe - but conversation should now continue. In my view, Scotland has the potential to elevate its legacy and enrich the event experience for attendees by embracing transformational approaches. There is a need for a fresh perspective, moving away from reliance solely on large global events. Let's channel our creative energies to explore every possibility available to Scotland, thereby maximizing our impact. The narrative we shape moving forward should be more expansive, tapping into a wider array of possibilities than ever before. Sustainability feels like a jigsaw puzzle at the moment. Many of us have a few pieces to the puzzle, and some may have even managed to work out how a few pieces fit together, but no one has the complete picture. The only way we can get the full picture is through collaboration and solving the tricky areas of the puzzle. What I love about working with other B corps or B curious businesses is that they are often incredibly open to sharing what they have discovered and equally open about what they still need to work out and/or learn. Their egos and sales pitches get left at the door. How often do two or three businesses from different industries freely collaborate on a shared mission? The power of combining the skills of different industries & individuals should not be underestimated. Last week, the Surrey B local event showcased what the B Corp community offers to small businesses and why we need more businesses from diverse backgrounds and industries to join and help build a better business in the UK. Another great example was today when we had an exploratory chat with a local B corp, Tax practice, which is part of our Surrey Sustainable Professionals Group. (part of Sebastian Elwell FPFS TEP 's presentation last week) We wanted to explore what change models were available for tax advisers and whether we needed to create ( find) a new model to support accountants and tax advisers in their journey towards sustainability. We didn't know what the meeting's outcome would be, and it could have achieved nothing. By the end of our meeting, we had sketched out what is likely to be the starting point for our first draft principles of "sustainable tax and accountancy advice." ( maybe two models). Both practices are considering how we build/measure service/advised emissions into our onboarding and monitoring processes. Advised emissions are a complicated problem that will take time to resolve. (The consultation is still looking for responses.) Again, thank you goes out to the Surrey B local speakers and co-chairs for delivering another inspiring event.
