If there's one thing true about veterinary medicine, it's that you have to meet your clients where they are. Dental care is essential for a pet's oral and overall health, but sometimes, it's hard to convey this message to pet owners and to get them to implement a dental care routine at home. By tailoring your advice to where your clients are in their pet's dental care journey, you can help them improve their pet's oral health, one step at a time.

🪥 Brushing a cat’s teeth is the most effective way to reduce plaque and tartar, promote healthy gums and reduce bad breath. We recommend introducing tooth brushing to cats from a young age to help make this a positive experience. 🐈 Older cats will be unfamiliar with having their teeth brushed and may need a slower and more gradual approach. You can follow our guide here 👉 https://lnkd.in/dVAUXzwP 😾 However, even with the best efforts, some cats will not tolerate tooth brushing. 👩⚕️ For these cats, speak to your veterinary team about using dental care products approved by the Veterinary Oral Health Council, as these are proven to reduce plaque and tartar formation. Here’s a helpful list 👉 https://lnkd.in/eT2i8Hw2 How do you care for your cat’s teeth? #PetDentalHealthMonth #CatAdvice #CatCare #Cats

Have you ever wondered what happens when your pet visits us for a dental scale and polish? 🦷🤔 🩺 After your pet has been anaesthetised a thorough examination of their mouth will begin. 👩⚕ Our vets assisted by a veterinary nurse will then examine and note any abnormalities in their medical record. Xrays may be taken to see below the gumline. 🍗 A dental probe will be used to evaluate gum bleeding and periodontal pockets where food can accumulate. 🦷 Following an examination of the teeth, scaling will begin. This is done using both hand and ultrasonic scalers to remove plaque and tartar above and below the gum line. 🦠 The tartar below the gum line causes the most significant periodontal disease, so it is important that it be thoroughly removed. 🧼 After scaling, the teeth are then polished to remove microscopic scratches and decrease the rate of subsequent plaque build-up. If you would like more information on a dental procedure or would like to book your pet in please call and speak to our friendly nurses. 📞❤️ 💜 #waggydog #waggydogmarketing #petindustry #veterinary #petmarketing #vets #vetsocialmedia #petsocialmedia #socialmediaforpets #socialmediaforvets #healthyteeth #petdentalhealth #scaleandpolish

Have you brushed your pet's teeth lately? If you paused or shook your head, you're not alone (no judgment here!). According to veterinary statistics, less than 2% of pet owners, specifically dog parents, clean their pet's teeth daily - making dental toys and bones popular picks in the home play baskets. But whether you have a dog, a cat or other small animals, dental care and health are just as important as they would be between you and your own dentist. Periodontal disease (gum disease), is very common in pets and can cause bad breath, oral pain, behavioural changes like reduced appetite, and may even affect a pet’s kidneys, liver and heart. This technological advancement in veterinary medicine allows you and your Vet to see the hidden horrors of ear mites lurking in your dog’s ears.
