We’re often asked, “What is the marketing funnel?” – It's a commonly asked question, but it's essential to understand. The marketing funnel is the journey your customer takes with your brand. It can be easy to forget that there are multiple touchpoints (interactions) between your ideal customer and your brand. On average, it can take eight different experiences with your brand for someone to become a customer. So – what are the stages your ideal customer will go through with your brand? 👇 1️⃣ 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 – This is where potential customers first discover you through various channels such as social media, paid ads, or word-of-mouth. 2️⃣ 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁 – Once they're aware of you, they might start looking at your website, social media, and reviews to see what your brand is all about. 3️⃣ 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 – This is where people are really starting to consider buying from you. They're comparing options, reading reviews, and maybe even adding items to their cart. 4️⃣ 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 – The potential customer takes the desired action! This is the success we've been waiting for, but, it's not the last step... 5️⃣ 𝗖𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗟𝗼𝘆𝗮𝗹𝘁𝘆 – Now, you must focus on retaining those hard-earned customers. Give them a great experience, delight them! 6️⃣ 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗰𝘆 – When you've truly won them over, your loyal customers become advocates for you, sharing their positive experiences and recommending you to others. This is a great time to ask for reviews. 📣 Each touch point is served by different elements of marketing – this is your marketing strategy. That could be a mix of SEO, paid advertising, social media, and your website. But, the key thing is, they must all work together to achieve that desired action, spanning the funnel and delighting your customer at each stage. ✅

We’ve heard of random acts of kindness, but what about “random acts of marketing”? One is good ✅ The other is not ❌ Came across this article by The Marketing Centre from two years ago that absolutely still holds true in 2024 — and probably even MORE true than it was in 2022. As marketers, we have A LOT of tools in the toolbox: organic social media, paid social, email, PPC, SEO, website, content, etc. And just like tools, usually only one (or a few) is needed for the job. e.g. You don’t need a wrench, pliers, screwdriver AND a hammer to put a nail into a board — you just need a hammer. In other words, you don’t just throw every tool you have at something in the hopes that something works. Marketing works exactly the same. You should test — of course — but without structuring your team correctly, strategizing based on business goals, choosing tactics to help you reach those goals and then allocating resources and team members accordingly, it’s just “random acts of marketing.” 1️⃣ Strategize. 2️⃣ Test. 3️⃣ Focus In. 4️⃣ . . . THEN Scale! #MarketingStrategy #Marketing #DigitalMarketing

Why MER Should Be Your Decision-Maker, Not ROAS If you’re still making decisions based solely on ROAS, it’s time to rethink your strategy. While ROAS is important, it’s too narrow to guide high-level business decisions effectively. Enter MER - the Marketing Efficiency Ratio, which gives you a complete picture of your overall marketing impact. Here’s why MER should be your north star: 1️⃣ Holistic View of Performance While ROAS only looks at the return on ad spend for a specific campaign, MER measures total revenue divided by total marketing spend. It captures all marketing efforts, not just the direct impact of one campaign. This makes it a more reliable metric for long-term business health. 2️⃣ Multi-Channel Impact Modern marketing strategies are multi-channel, organic content, email marketing, paid social, and influencer collaborations. MER accounts for the collective impact of these efforts, while ROAS only tells you how well paid ads are performing. Focusing solely on ROAS can lead to tunnel vision, missing the big picture. 3️⃣ Customer Lifetime Value ROAS measures immediate returns, but MER considers the bigger picture of customer acquisition and retention. A lower ROAS doesn’t mean failure if that customer has a high lifetime value. MER accounts for the total value a customer brings over time, making it a better gauge of overall marketing success. 4️⃣ Sustainable Growth Chasing high ROAS can lead to overly focusing on short-term wins. On the other hand, MER helps you focus on scalable growth by giving you insight into how your entire marketing engine is performing. It tells you if your overall investment is sustainable and worth increasing. 5️⃣ Avoids Misleading Metrics ROAS can be misleading if you have high returns on one ad but lose money in other areas of your marketing budget. MER keeps you grounded, ensuring that every dollar spent across the marketing landscape is delivering. MER is your best bet if you want to focus on long-term, sustainable growth. It gives you the full picture of how your marketing is driving revenue, not just what’s happening on the ad level.

Most businesses waste time and money on marketing because they don’t have a real strategy. Without a solid strategy, your business is wandering aimlessly. Period. Think of your strategy as your roadmap. I know marketing can seem complex, but it’s really about asking the right questions, choosing the right channels, creating great content, and tracking your results. Here are 5 steps to create your strategy: 1️⃣ Define Your Goals What are your business objectives? Who are you trying to attract? What sets you apart from the competition? 2️⃣ Choose Your Channels Once you know your goals, decide which platforms to focus on — social media, your website/SEO, email marketing, or all of them. And FYI, you don’t have to be on every platform. If your business doesn’t belong on Instagram or TikTok, don’t waste your time. Find the one channel where your audience lives and go all in. You can add more channels later! 3️⃣ Create a Content Strategy Research, research, research. Use tools like Answer the Public and SEMrush. Browse TikTok and YouTube to discover what your audience wants to know. What are your customers’ pain points? What makes your business stand out from competitors? Build content around that. 4️⃣ Map the Customer Journey Think through the steps your customer takes. If they find you on Instagram where do they go next? What’s your call-to-action? Do you have a funnel in place to guide them? 5️⃣ Track Your Progress Set up metrics, like Google Analytics, to measure success and adjust your strategy as needed. The biggest challenge? Marketing is a long game. You have to be willing to adapt and evolve. If you’re not, you’re already losing. You stay ahead by constantly testing, tweaking, and improving.

In many marketing events there's this puffery marketing promotion. Marketers know this. But if you're not a marketer, beware! Most of the tactics about marketing you see on social can be misleading. Here's why: Social media is a great sphere for marketers. While it provides a platform for sharing strategies and success stories, it also spreads misinformation. Let's get real, please: "Our Formula Works" Story: You see a post claiming a certain tactic boosted someone’s sales or traffic by 300%. But what worked for their industry, audience, and timing might not work for yours. Overnight Success Stories: 'I gained 10K followers in a week using this trick!' Sounds great, right? But they rarely disclose the years of groundwork laid beforehand. Bla Bla Metrics: 'We got 50k likes on our post!' Likes don’t always translate to leads or sales. Focus on metrics that matter. Outdated Strategies: 'SEO is dead, focus on social media.' SEO evolves but never dies. Algorithms change but some use old tactics... Integrate, don’t eliminate. Hyped Tools 'This tool will automate all your marketing needs.' Tools are enablers, not replacements. Human touch and strategy are irreplaceable. So, what should you do? Marketing isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution, especially when we dive into the realms of social media versus online marketing. Many businesses often mix these two up, but there are some crucial differences to keep in mind: 📱 Social Media Marketing: Think of it as your dynamic playground! It's all about quick engagement, building brand visibility, and fostering customer interaction. Platforms like Instagram and LinkedIn shine when it comes to creating community and staying top of mind. 🌐 Online Marketing: This is your strategic powerhouse! Consider it your digital foundation for sustainable growth. 🔑 The Winning Strategy: The most successful businesses skillfully blend these two approaches. They tap into social media for immediate engagement while leveraging online marketing for reliable, steady growth. However, finding the right balance can be a bit tricky. Wondering which strategy aligns best with YOUR business goals? Shoot me a message, and let’s craft a personalised plan that elevates your brand.
