Computer education is the engine for digital transformation. In many schools across Africa, computer science teachers often start teaching without having foundational skills in the subject. Many learn on the job, while others are unsure where to begin. Sadly, underserved communities remain completely deprived of computer science education, leaving young people unaware of coding or lacking a computing mindset. In some areas, algorithms and computers are still viewed as "juju"—a mystery, rather than a tool for empowerment. This mindset must change, and together, we can make that happen. We are working to promote inclusive and equitable computer science education across Africa, ensuring every child has access to the right teachers and understands that programming is not magic, but a skill everyone can learn. Our mission is to create opportunities where African youth can thrive and become part of the global digital economy. Join us NETKINGS in driving this transformation. Together, we can ensure that no child is left behind, and that Africa becomes a hub of innovation and talent. #ComputerScienceEducation #DigitalTransformation #InclusiveEducation #Africa #FutureOfLearning #CodingForKids #Netkings #ACMAfrica #CSTA #TechForGood #STEM #google #mircosoft #3mtt SMEDAN

When we first piloted the idea for a free computer coding program in Zambia in late 2023, we sought to answer a few crucial questions: 1. Could we teach coding without reliable internet and electricity? 2. Could we teach coding to those who had never used a computer before? 3. Would the students enjoy it? 4. Would the schools and parents support us? readmore here https://lnkd.in/ea6ZhFtj

In 2022, the government of Kenya approved a new curriculum for secondary and primary school students that would teach coding. This made Kenya the first African country to mainstream coding in the basic education curriculum. While the piloting is still ongoing, there is no doubt that the coding train has taken off. However, while the Government has taken care of learners in the basic education space, the in-school and out-of-school youths (especially those in technical institutions, or dropped out of school) stand to miss this great opportunity. It is on this premise that Code Yangu Mashinani is based. Anchored on SDG 8: Decent Work & Economic Growth, CodeYangu Mashinani is an out-of-town, county-focused, and skill-based program by Zoezi Education Solutions, meant to equip youths (in-school & out-of-school) with coding, business, and personal development skills key to create livelihoods, and participate in building the nation through gigs and running startups and other businesses. Learn more about this great initiative HERE: https://lnkd.in/dJfhJvZy Let's keep talking. This is our country, and we sure need to actively collaborate to provide economically empowering solutions.
