🌱 Feel the Call of Spring: Embrace the Magic of Imbolc 🌱 Are you sensing the subtle shifts beneath your feet? It might still be snowy, but the seeds of change are quietly germinating in nature and within your personal and professional life. ✨ That’s the magic of Imbolc. ✨ 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗜𝗺𝗯𝗼𝗹𝗰? Imbolc is a cross-quarter day that falls between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. It was one of the four Fire Festivals in ancient traditions, bringing light and festivity to the dark winter days. The Irish term “Imbolc” means “in the belly,” referencing the beginning of the lambing season—a crucial time for warmth and sustenance as spring emerges. (For more on cross-quarter days in the Wheel of the Year, check out my previous post.) 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗱: The Powerful Feminine Force of Imbolc Brigid is a multifaceted figure: ▶️ Pre-Christian Goddess of fire, transformation, and the forge. ▶️ St. Brigid: A 5th/6th-century Irish nun known for her compassion and resilience. ▶️ VooDoo/HooDoo Loa: A global symbol of love, justice, and equity. Brigid is global now, and you don't have to be Irish to connect with her. St. Brigid’s Day is on Feb 1, and astronomical Imbolc occurs on Feb 3 this year. You have plenty of opportunities to connect with Brigid’s empowering energy. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗱? If Brigid calls to you, you'll know it. If you've gotten this far in the post, she probably is. She can also help you: • Enhance your self-worth and love • Fire you up for personal and professional transformation • Navigate challenges, especially around unfair systems (hello sexism or racism) That last one hits home right now as vulnerable people face institutional violence; Brigid’s provides models for equity. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗜𝗺𝗯𝗼𝗹𝗰: 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗱 𝗖𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 Connecting with Imbolc doesn’t require elaborate rituals. A simple and meaningful way is to create a Brigid Cross: Gather Materials: • Traditional: Reeds or rushes. • Alternatives: Sturdy straw, brown paper bag strips, or pipe cleaners. Craft with Intention: • Create the cross, representing the sun wheel, symbolizing the emergence of seeds both in the ground and in your life. • Link to show you how to do it: https://lnkd.in/g92Rd4Er Infuse Your Intentions: • As you weave, focus on your the seeds you're planting. Display and Bless: • Place the cross on your porch or near your front door on St. Brigid’s Eve (Jan 31) or Imbolc Eve (Feb 2). Let Brigid bless it as she passes by during the night. The next morning, place it in your front threshold or kitchen to welcome her blessings throughout the year. 🌟 Now it's your turn: What "seeds" are you ready to plant in your life and work this Imbolc? Share your thoughts in the comments below. #Imbolc #WheelOfTheYear #PersonalGrowth #ProfessionalDevelopment #SeasonalAlignment #Brigid #Mindfulness #WorkLifeBalance #NatureInspired #EquityAndJustice

Thank you so much for the partnership Washington Workforce Association for your work to advance the Community Reinvestment Plan Workforce Strategies that are making an impact. State-Funded IDAs (Individual Development Accounts): Washington’s Community Reinvestment Project (CRP) reintroduces state-supported IDAs, offering low-income individuals matched savings up to $10,000 for education, homeownership, and business development. Similar to investments in neighboring states like Oregon and California, enhancing economic mobility and stability by providing essential financial tools to build long-term assets. Focus on Underemployment: The CRP and Poverty Reduction Workgroup are driving a shift in Washington’s workforce system to address underemployment alongside unemployment. Programs like the EcSA Career Accelerator provide financial incentives, job training, financial coaching, and asset-building opportunities, integrating diverse services to support long-term financial stability and prevent economic crises. Small Business Grant Program: Washington’s CRP launched its first Small Business Grant Program, focusing on equitable economic development for underserved communities. Engaging over 820 Black, Latine, and Tribal-owned businesses, the program offers grants, workforce development support, and subsidized training for hiring and skills development. Business Navigators assist with resources to drive operations growth, promote good-paying careers, and dismantle systemic barriers, fostering economic stability and job creation in historically marginalized communities.
We’re excited to celebrate Korbett Mosesly, managing director of the Community Reinvestment Project (CRP). Korbett received the Washington Workforce Association’s 2024 Chair Award for his dedicated leadership implementing the CRP! The CRP programs focus on repairing wealth disparities in communities disproportionately harmed by the war on drugs. With an initial $200 million investment, CRP is anticipated to yield $1.6 billion in economic benefits for targeted communities. This includes increased earnings, reduced recidivism costs, and enhanced community stability. Watch Washington Workforce Association’s video recognizing Korbett: https://lnkd.in/gQH9ijge

Receiving the King Charles III Coronation Medal is a profound moment for me as someone from Kenya, a country whose history is deeply entwined with the legacy of the British Empire. This recognition brings with it a duality of feelings: immense pride in the work I’ve been privileged to do and a moment to reflect on the complexities of colonial histories and the pathways we are forging to move forward. Kenya’s story, like mine, is one of resilience, transformation, and a commitment to building something better, even when the odds are stacked against us. At QuakeLab, we strive to reimagine systems that have historically excluded so many, using equity as a technical skill to dismantle barriers and create spaces of dignity and inclusion. This medal serves as both an honor and a reminder of how far we’ve come—and how far we still need to go. To my team, mentors, family, and community—thank you. Your trust, support, and courage fuel this work every day. To the countless changemakers out there, especially those who carry the weight of history on their shoulders, this is for you. We can honor where we’ve been while challenging the systems and narratives that have defined us. We can continue to ask the hard questions, push boundaries, and design a future that centers equity, justice, and shared humanity. Here’s to the work ahead—and the worlds we’ll build together.
