Managing billions in AUM, the international asset manager Robeco got into a financial-ESG partnership with the Swiss Association for Responsible Investments, counting 11 #Swiss institutional #invetsors.  Differing from the previously published deals, this one is not about an M&A transaction but its aim is to undesrtand how a responsible-investing association can use a financial-services #vehicle to access better companies and engage on critical sustainable topics. This combines the Robeco’s ESG #policy and its network with the investing #priorities of the association, gaining a very intersting perspective in terms of future #results.

Important to remind Larry that the lunatic Right are not the only ones mad at him. Some of us have figured out that what we want in green investments is not garbage-in-garbage-out portfolio overlays that “tilt” toward climate leaders or step down gameable metrics like “financed emissions” in line with some net-zero trajectory. We want the legacy energy companies destroying shareholder value by doubling down on stranded assets to be sold, yesterday. We want our voting power to be used aggressively to force the remaining companies’ managers and boards to align their capital planning with actual physical net zero.

ESG issues and considerations have become increasingly important to societies generally, investors, asset managers and, as a result, regulators and legislators across the globe. As more ESG rules are adopted in various jurisdictions, it may be challenging for global asset managers to comply with co‑existing obligations in different regions. We’re taking action against BlackRock for #greenwashing.    We're filing a complaint against the investment company with the French financial regulator, for misleading marketing. BlackRock markets some of its investment funds as 'sustainable', despite those funds having over a billion invested in fossil fuel companies such as Shell and bp.    This is our first greenwashing complaint against a financial institution. This is a systemic issue, and investors and the public need to know about misleading marketing.     We want to see 3 main outcomes:    1. Enforcement from the financial regulator to ensure investment firm funds labelled ‘sustainable’ are in fact sustainable - and not fuelling climate breakdown.     2. For BlackRock itself to either change the language it uses when marketing its investments, or to reallocate its 'sustainable' fund portfolios so that its investments are consistent with how it presents these funds to the public.      3. For other investment managers to heed the warning of this complaint against BlackRock, and for regulators around the world to pay attention to how investment companies are marketing their 'sustainable' funds.

Today, ClientEarth has taken concrete steps to combat #greenwashing in the investment management sector - using their legal expertise to file a complaint to the French financial regualtor against BlackRock, whose "sustainable" funds marketed in France invest in some of the world's most polluting companies such as Shell, TotalEnergies, Chevron and BP. With European guidelines on sustainable investments becoming ever sticter, will this turn the tide on such scandalous practices?
