How many people live in apartments with their families? How many families consist of children elementary age or high school ? What activities are there near by or even better on the property that these children can enjoy? We see apartment living attracting more families yet the communities don’t really cater to these children. Certainly new builds may want to think about this segment as it continues to grow. Space is the answer! Using space creatively.

Our children don’t need more Parking lots; they need more Parks, Plazas, and Playgrounds. Parking spaces consume a significant portion of our cities, depriving our children of the opportunities to move, explore, and play. When they finally step outside, they encounter lifeless streets - places where play is neither safe nor fun. Take Los Angeles County, for instance: 👶 1.7 million children (under 14) 👥 nearly 10 million residents 🚗 7.5 million vehicles 🅿️ 18.6 million parking spaces And how many playgrounds do these 1.7 million children have? 🤸 Only 1,489. If we truly want our children to thrive in cities, we must prioritize giving them the space they deserve. Data sources: - Parking in Los Angeles: Chester et al., 2015, “Parking Infrastructure: A Constraint on or Opportunity for Urban Redevelopment? A Study of Los Angeles County Parking Supply and Growth.” - Playgrounds: OpenStreetMap.
