Justin Chen, MD, First Year Cardiology Fellow, First Author along with Anubha Agarwal, MD, MSc, Assistant Professor of Medicine, Co-Director, Program in Global Cardiovascular Health, WashU Medicine Cardiovascular Division, Senior Author, have published in Circulation: Cardiovascular Quality and Outcomes. The findings from this mixed methods research, “Stakeholder Perspectives on a Heart Failure With Reduced Ejection Fraction Polypill: A Multi-Center Mixed Methods Study”, lay the foundation for future randomized controlled trials evaluating a polypill-based approach for patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction in the United States. Cardiology Milestones Throughout History (Part 3) Electrocardiogram (ECG) Development (1903) In 1903, Dutch physiologist and medical doctor Willem Einthoven (21 May 1860 – 29 September 1927) developed the electrocardiogram, a tool that records the electrical activity of the heart. He won the Nobel Prize in 1924 for this work, which remains a critical diagnostic tool in cardiology. Cardiology, the study of the heart and its functions, has a rich history with numerous milestones that have significantly advanced our understanding and treatment of heart disease. Over the next few weeks, we’re going to highlight some interesting historical facts about key cardiology milestones. #Cardiology #Cardiologist #Heart #Cardiac #HeartHealthy #HeartHealth #CardiovascularHealth #BeatHeartDisease #Orillia #medicine #doctor #healthcare #Barrie #Newmarket #HealthyHeart #HeartCare #HeartHealthyLiving #Afib #HeartPatient #AtrialFibrillation #ECG #EKG #HeartDoctor #HeartPatient #MedicalHistory #electrocardiogram Heart & Stroke

I just made a new Instagram Reel about important cardiology information - the dangers of PAD! https://lnkd.in/eU7PrdzQ What is PAD(Peripheral Arterial Disease), how can it affect the carotid arteries and femoral arteries, and how do we screen for it? If there are blockages, how can we fix them? Dr. Lara Oboler, a Board-Certified Cardiologist in New York City, answers these common cardiac health questions from patients. If you’ve had a stroke or if you have pain with exertion, you should see your cardiologist. Get in touch with Dr. Oboler, Comprehensive Cardiologist at laraobolermd.com Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) is a condition in which your cardiologist examines the health of your arteries, such as the femoral and carotid, to detect blockages that affect blood flow. This disease can increase your risk of heart complications, including coronary artery disease. By assessing the blood flow in these arteries, your cardiologist can determine the extent of PAD and recommend the best treatment plan to improve your overall cardio health. Speak with your doctor to learn more about managing your risk for PAD and maintaining a healthy heart. Do you have a question you want to have answered by Dr. Oboler in a future reel? Check out the results from a 2024 American College of Cardiology (ACC) poster presentation by Suzanne Baron, MD, MSc, Director of Interventional Cardiology Research, Massachusetts General Hospital and Faculty at The Baim Institute for Clinical Research, to assess the cost-utility of the CADScor System for the evaluation of coronary artery disease (CAD) in a low-risk patient population presenting to the Emergency Department (ED) with chest pain. The key findings from the study revealed that the "CADScor-First" strategy was economically dominant, leading to substantial cost savings compared to alternative non-invasive cardiac testing methods in low-risk patients presenting to the ED with chest pain. Additionally, the incidence of missed cardiac events with the CADScor System was remarkably low, indicating that the anticipated economic benefit did not compromise clinical outcomes. Moreover, in the studied patient population, a "CADScor-First" strategy had the potential to save up to $177.8M per 100,000 patients evaluated. https://lnkd.in/dR7RrBK4 #Acarix #CADScorSystem #costeffectiveness #ED #chestpain

Sad, very sad story. This is from like 2004 or so and a true story when I was a AHA Bugher Foundation Molecular Cardiology Fellow at The Baylor College of Medicine and Houston Methodist Hospital in Houston, TX. One of my cofellow was on call for cardiology when she was called to evaluate a post op SAVR patient with type 2 Mobitz AV block who had a temporary postop pacer wires as patient had this rythm all of a sudden. As everyone panicking what to do, CPR, ressusitation, patient appearently expired. when you carefully analyze this rythm strip, you can apreciate the new pacer spike during early repolarization with initiation of VT/Vfib. So postop pacing modes are very very important to avoid this serious and potentially lethal complication.
