🧠 “Alzheimer’s Disease is a major healthcare issue in rural and regional populations and ageing is the biggest contributing factor.” Can the use of Medical Resonance Imaging (MRI) be used as a tool for the early detection of Alzheimer’s Disease? It's a question Charles Sturt University's Dr Xiaoming Zheng hopes to answer with new research he is leading in Wagga Wagga. Dr Zheng and his team are investigating how MRI scans can be used to spot Alzheimer’s before it progresses, potentially revolutionising how we detect and treat this challenging disease. 🧠 “Earlier detection is critical but there is no effective tool for the screening of the disease and often patients have already developed into an advanced stage of the disease when clinical symptoms appear. “Evidence suggests that Alzheimer’s Disease drugs focused on reducing or removing amyloid deposit or hyperphosphorylated tau (current methods of treatment) are not effective, so we need to find a different strategy in drug development to be able to effectively treat this disease.” ➡️ It is hoped this new research will lead to earlier detection, more effective and targeted therapies and new directions for Alzheimer’s medication. #CharlesSturtResearch #RuralHealthCare TEQSA PRV12018 (Australian University) CRICOS 000005F

Evaluating Prognostic Indicators in Acute PE with Malignancy This study examines how the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group Performance Status (ECOG PS) impacts short- and long-term mortality in acute pulmonary embolism (PE) patients with advanced malignancies, in correlation with the simplified Pulmonary Embolism Severity Index (sPESI). Findings indicate that patients with an ECOG PS ≥ 3 exhibit poorer survival outcomes, highlighting the need for tailored care strategies for those with concurrent malignancy and acute PE. Tears are much more than just water and salt. A single tear contains more than a hundred substances that can reveal the presence of diseases. Marlies Gijs at Maastricht UMC+ develops a self-test for tears. She states that "We can compare tears to blood" in the article written in Innovation Origins by Emile Hollman. #Alzheimer #huntingtonsdisease #tears #eye #research Read the complete article here: https://lnkd.in/epaZKaCM

On this #WorldHemophiliaDay 2024 we are reviewing recent advances to the management of the disease. Hemophilia is a relatively rare, inherited bleeding disorder. Achieving an early and accurate diagnosis is crucial, otherwise, this disease can cause severe, even life-threatening complications. Despite advances in diagnostic methods and available therapies, some challenges and complications remain. In our program 'Navigating the evolving care of hemophilia patients' we hear from Professor David Lillicrap, and Professor Margareth C Ozelo as they discuss updates on diagnosis and management of treatment responses, and what this means for daily practice. Access the interview to learn more at https://lnkd.in/ep3iUJ52 --- This independent educational activity has been supported by an educational grant from Sanofi. #WorldHemophiliaDay2024 #WorldHemophiliaDay24 #hemophilia #individualisedcare #patientmanagement #independentmedicaleducation #ime #continuingmedicaleducation #cme #SpringerIME

🔬 Revolutionary Insights into Endometriosis Exciting advancements from Baylor College of Medicine and collaborating institutions are paving the way for a non-invasive stool test and potential therapy for endometriosis. Implications: - This research marks a major first step toward a non-invasive diagnostic test, presenting an accessible alternative for detection. - The study underscores fascinating connections between endometriosis and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), hinting at a broader interplay between gut health and these conditions. Why This Matters: In the UK alone, countless women face delays in diagnosis due to extensive waiting lists or prohibitive costs at private clinics. These findings could transform access to timely, effective diagnosis and treatment, offering relief and improved quality of life. #Endometriosis #HealthcareInnovation #Microbiome #BaylorCollegeOfMedicine #WomenInScience #GutHealth #IBD #HealthcareAccess
