March is Social Work Month. We want to give a shoutout to our fellow social workers! The demand for social workers is reflected in the statistics. Did you know that by 2030 there will be more than 782,00 social workers in the United States? This makes social work one of the fastest growing professions in the United States. This year's Social Work Month theme is Empowering Social Workers. Across our country, social workers are on the frontlines, behind the scenes, and leading the way in serving and supporting individuals, families, and communities struggling with mental health challenges, homelessness, opioid addiction, and economic and social inequalities, to name a few. We are asking the public to support social workers to improve our bottom line by supporting legislation to access the Mental Health Act, loan forgiveness to cancel student debt, and social work safety legislation. Let's Advocate Together! #SocialWorkMonth #EmpoweringSocialWorkers

It won’t be long when “larger development practitioners/organisations” themselves replace the local grassroots organisations. The end is near when “they” become our decision makers of whom to support and whom to ignore! The ignorance towards crisis affected children, adolescents and young vulnerable populations is just the tip of the iceberg. The fight for community driven work will just collapse with the rise of bureaucracy and top down hierarchical advocacy will prevail again! I often complain about Manipur and the lost of opportunities for young people and grassroots organisations because of the conflict. Unknowingly some of the young organisations might have perished without your knowledge. Ours equally, are also on the verge of collapse if the crisis persist for another year. Tragically whenever I speak to other organisations and agencies, the answer often is “Oh! is it still going on?” . It breaks my heart not because they don’t know but because our issues have been wiped off from the mainstream. We often talk about “Leave No One Behind” and it seemed genuine earlier. But now it has become just another phrase to look “cool” and “inclusive”. Ironically there is no grace period or extensions for submission of proposals or considerations to include our voices in platforms because we have been left way behind. I just feel overwhelmed thinking of the moment, the community have to beg for help from the people/ office bearers of development agencies who draws their salary and livelihoods in the name of the community. #whatweneed is the acknowledgement of crisis young people and organisations are facing due to conflict and war and the need for meaningful participation in decision making to provide support during emergencies for their welfare. #community #support #work #livelihoods #jobs #csr #

The truth is, social workers bring numerous transferable skills that benefit any organization, whether in corporate or community settings. Society often overlooks social workers due to a narrow narrative that portrays them solely as working with children and families. Social workers offer more than child removal and social services. It's time to shift that narrative. #SocialWork #TransferableSkills #ChangeTheNarrative #ChangeManagement

Amid calls for the new government to support social work, a timely reminder of a motion passed at BASW AGM 2022 calling on government to term-limit the Chief Social Worker posts and for post holders to be appointed in collaboration with the profession. It is in effect a persuasive argument from social workers as to why, after 12 far-from-successful years, it’s high time for the Tory-appointed, Gove-favoured Chief Social Worker for Children and Families to go. A new dawn for the country. A new dawn for social work.

The government's plans to reform children's social care in England must be matched with significant investment in social work and social care. BASW member, Patriche Bentick spoke to Channel 4 News yesterday about the longstanding challenges that need addressed in the children's social care system. Social workers are already stretched thin, managing heavy caseloads and facing staff shortages. Without sufficient resources, these ambitious plans risk falling short. We're also calling on Ministers to engage with social workers and care-experienced people to ensure these proposed reforms are practical and effective. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/e7ibSnif 🔗 https://lnkd.in/ecTGBU-E

This is even more important now, given the enormous financial pressures resulting from the increases coming from the changes to the employer NICs regime. Transparency is key as we prepare for the spring spending review. National Care Forum The Care Provider Alliance
For some time now, Access Social Care has been urging the government to share the data they use to make decisions on funding for adult social care. After numerous attempts through legal processes to request government transparency regarding adult social care funding, successive governments have consistently refused to supply this information. This is in clear opposition to the new ministerial code, drawn up just this month, which requires honesty and openness. Our members have joined over 60 other organisations and have signed this open letter to express deep concern directly to the Prime Minister. https://lnkd.in/egTuieV9
