I have taken a lot of agriculture related CTE classes, including animal science and AG leadership, these classes have both given me knowledge and skills that are helpful in this internship, I learned a lot about being a leader and working with people through my AG leadership class. It makes it easier to communicate with people and teach kids, it gave me experience talking to people, creating lessons, and being confident, this helps me with my internship a lot. #nebointerns #utahcteinternships #internships #shhsinterns

This week, our Plantrician Library features a new article from Tina Speros, MS, RD Candidate at Andrews University! Tina recently completed an internship at The Plantrician Project, working with our Director of Education, Jill Edwards, on Plantrician University, and did fantastic work! "My advice for any plant-based student in the healthcare industry is to not lose touch with your passion. It can be discouraging to be in environments that do not share your beliefs and follow evidence-based research. Therefore, you must take it upon yourself to actively seek involvement in plant-based projects. Share your expertise with others even when it feels uncomfortable... you do not know the extent of the impact it may have on that person." -Tina Speros Read more about Tina's dietetic internship experience, advice for plant-based students in healthcare, and an epiphany while completing her internship: https://loom.ly/Gp66W8A #plantricianproject #education #healthcareeducation #internship #dietetic #plantbased #healthcarestudents #medstudents #PlantU #andrewsuniversity #followyourpassion #plantbasednutrition

The 🍅 stories. A series about growing fruit and people. This one is about the value of internships. When I first started growling tomatoes I’d go to the nursery and buy my plants. But often some failed and others produced little fruit. Today I grow all my tomatoe plants from Heirloom seeds. I care for each plant, thining, pruning and carefully transitioning them outside. Now, none of my plants fail. This makes me think about the challenges hiring early career professionals. We both tried our best but often, it didn’t work out. If I’d instead invest in a few interns we would have built a relationship from the start, snipping and pruning each other, so we both got the results we’d hope for. If you 👍 this 🍅 story please share and repost! #internships.

Yesterday I posted about paid and unpaid internships in wildlife fields (read that first if you missed it), but did you know that there are internships that you pay for? Here's my thoughts on these! Wildlife internships that you pay for tend to be the least valuable because essentially the organization providing them is selling a product (the internship), even if they are a nonprofit. In order to attract more people to the program, they will often make the internship more desirable by adding on cool experiences, travel, or a larger variety of work. 🌎✈️ These can be super fun and great experiences for you personally, but they often aren’t solid as experience in the eyes of employers. 🚫 When you are doing different things every day, you are not really getting solid experience in any one thing. These internships are also often short, like a couple of weeks. Again, this is not much time to gain real experience. ⏳ And, as mentioned above, you want to make sure you get the experience you need for the job that you want. If you want a job working with the US Fish and Wildlife Service, volunteering at an elephant sanctuary in Thailand is not going to provide the relevant experience to get you there. 🐘 Matt Snider and I discuss this at length in the Fancy Scientist podcast episode #94: Volunteering Abroad for Wildlife Biology: https://lnkd.in/ddr86Qda But they also have the potential to lead to real jobs! As they did with Matt! So it all depends and listen to episode for all of the details.

🌲 This summer, we've been encouraging you to share the #woodsupplychain with students in your community. Check out this article by Gloria Coleman at The News-Review, which features FRA member company Roseburg Forest Products. The company offers #internships for students to gain hands-on experience working in the woods. 🗨️ “It’s super interesting. There’s a lot going on in the timber industry, more than meets the eye. So it’s been a really fun experience, getting to learn about it and kind of be in it,” says Owen Vredenburg, a current intern. 👉 Read the full article here: Douglas County's Rising Workers' Interest in the Forests https://lnkd.in/eyfAvZdD 📚 FRA Further Reading: Cultivating Future Foresters https://lnkd.in/ePNfFEau To Attract People to the Forest Industry, We Need to Be Attractive https://lnkd.in/eCphNvMa The Forest Industry Needs More Young Talent https://lnkd.in/epHhdE2u
