Facing my sobriety “End of Level Boss"; Glastonbury Festival 2024. This post won't be for everyone, but six months ago, I shared my journey to one year of sobriety, and the incredible upgrades to my life it brought. I was completely overwhelmed by the support my post received and I felt if you're still interested in exploring this new way of life, it could be useful to understand how I managed to power through this last weekend. 541 days into my life without booze, after anniversaries, birthdays, weddings, stag-dos and holidays, I faced my absolute ultimate test – Glastonbury Festival. Glastonbury is legendary for its music, peaceful atmosphere, and, well, let's be honest, the free-flowing drinks. This "sobriety end of level boss" loomed large, but with some planning and a whole lot of willpower, I emerged victorious. Here's how I achieved it: Hydration: Glastonbury is a marathon. I packed a reusable water bottle and stayed hydrated to keep my energy levels high and cravings at bay. Good Friends: Surrounded myself with supportive friends who were there to celebrate the music and atmosphere. Facing the FOMO: Let's be real, there were moments of temptation. Seeing everyone around me with a drink in hand definitely triggered some cravings. But here's what I did: I took a deep breath, stepped away from the situation, and reminded myself of the amazing feeling of being present and in control. Waking up refreshed, remembering every incredible set, and feeling energised – that's the Glastonbury experience I never knew existed. This wasn't just about avoiding alcohol; it was about experiencing the festival at its fullest potential. So, are you facing your own "sobriety end of level boss"? Remember, it's all about preparation, having a strong support system, and focusing on the true rewards. To put it bluntly, if I can conquer Glastonbury sober, so can you! #SoberFestivalSurvival #Glastonbury #MindOverMatter P.S. Share your own tips and tricks for navigating social situations sober in the comments! Let's support and inspire each other on this journey.
Good for you Rob - congrats and thanks for sharing. I bet you felt good Monday morning;-). On a less extreme level, I have done my own "Dry Q1" the last 2 years which has done wonders - but which was severely tested by our KO event in Vegas... My solution to the cravings was soda and fresh lime and conning myself there was vodka in there;-). Onwards!

Third sober Glasto for me this year - still amazing on many levels and great feeling fresh!
This is brilliant!!! I just went on a stag do to Montenegro - my first big test as a non-drinker, which I'm happy to say I passed 🙂. I handled it by: Letting everyone know in advance that I don't drink. My good friend Jonathan Fraser actually wrote it into the stag rules that anyone who called me boring had to pay a fine 🤣 Checked in advance of travelling about AF beers. Wasn't hopeful but actually found almost every where had something available which really helped. Planned out stuff I'd do while everyone slept off the night before including a 5k run and some sea swimming. I had a great time and found I enjoyed it more than if I had been drinking - took in every moment and knew when to call it a night 👌🏼
Love it Rob Simms - well done mate.
Love this. Well done mate. Sadly the willpower gave in for bad shirts and bucket hats 😂😂😂
This is quite the achievement, well played and glad you had a good one.
Rob Simms I’m approaching 1 year with no alcohol myself. Those boss level activities are so challenging. Proud of you and your journey. I’m right here with you and inspired by your commitment. Cheers to the continued sobriety. Keep me in your prayers as I journey through my first 4th of July here in the states with no alcohol for the first time in 9 years.

6moWell done Rob! It was great to catch up, and also to discuss our mutual sobriety - 2.5 years for me. Waking up early(ish!) with a fresh head, being able to look back clearly at the previous day, and to be able to look forward with eagerness and brightness to what the festival was going to deliver next was such a bonus!
