Dallas - Emergency Shout Out - Calling out to all in Dallas and surrounding areas - Dallas Animal Shelter is overcrowded and has 10 dogs on the Euth list that need homes - Rescues mostly but some available for Adoption or Foster. Please spread the word as most are 1yr or less - we want them to live. There are 2 small dogs, 2 yrs old, Casey, 21 #, A1233296 & one no named, 9# A1233554. Having pets does not prevent you from fostering, in fact, they can be an asset to a foster family. However, every animal is different and your pets will be assessed as part of the process of becoming a foster carer, and indeed any ongoing assessment, taking into account factors, such as their temperament and behaviour. Due to the high number of strays and owner surrenders coming in daily, we cannot safely accommodate all the animals, forcing us to make difficult decisions regarding euthanasia. It’s National Foster a Pet Month Fostering provides temporary housing for pets in need. • Shelters can be overwhelming for pets, with constant noise and unfamiliar surroundings. A foster home provides a calm and quiet environment, allowing the animal to relax and feel safe. • In a shelter setting, it can be difficult to assess an animal's true personality. Fostering allows the pet to interact with a family, showcase their temperament, and become more comfortable around people. This makes them more appealing to potential adopters. • Many shelter animals lack social skills due to limited interaction. Fostering exposes them to love, care, and positive human connection. Beautiful soul on death row due to a system that remains ill equipped and unwilling to take the necessary measures to meet the needs of dogs and communities. The write-up on Antonio says it all. He could easily thrive in a home, but here he rots on death row. It is easy to blame pet parents or breeders or lack of spay/neuter clinics, but placing blame on one group or relying on one solution is not sufficient. The system as a whole must integrate sustainable solutions, but with ego centric humans at the helm, this has yet to be accomplished. As a leader in animal welfare and canine behavior education (not that Antonio needs any behavioral help), I bring forth one solution that has positively impacted the canine welfare sector for decades. One solution, in conjunction with other proven effective initiatives, can prevent the enormous number of dogs surrendered to, and killed in, shelters everyday. It is up to us. It is up to you.
