With temperatures pushing 40 degrees today, if you’re not sure whether it’s too hot to walk your dog, just follow the 5-second rule 🖐️🐶 Simply place the back of your hand on a surface for five seconds. If you can’t handle the heat, your dog can’t either and it would be best to wait till things cool down before venturing out 🚶♀️ Your dog can easily overheat when walking in the warmer weather. Dogs cool themselves through their paws and by panting. They simply can’t do this if the ground and air is too hot! 🥵 To avoid burning your pooch’s pads, try walking early in the morning before the pavement has heated up or later at night on cooler grassed areas 🌿 If you think your pet has overheated or is suffering from heat related issues, call an RSPCA veterinary hospital or your local veterinarian immediately. #prevention #petsafety #hotdogs

At this time of year, we know that heatstroke is a common health issue that canines are coming into your clinic with. Educating pet owners on how to care for their pets throughout the warmer months could reduce the number of heatstroke cases you will see in your clinic this summer. So, what pet owners should do to prevent heatstroke is: - Make sure their animal(s) always has a cool shaded place to sit both outside and inside - Ensure that they always have plenty of cold drinking water available - Reduce their exercise on warm days It’s also important to educate pet owners on the symptoms of heatstroke and what to do if they suspect their dog is suffering from heatstroke. This is why we have created a FREE Protect your Dog from Heat Stroke poster which you can display in your veterinary practice as a constant reminder to your pet owners. Get your FREE poster at the link below. https://lnkd.in/e8g3NHgC #veterinarytraining #education #vetschool #vet #vetenarian #medicaleducation #animalsimulators #educationalproducts #veterinarystudents #animalanatomy #anatomy #anatomyeducation #educationalresouces #heatstroke #canineheatstroke

9. The Ethical Dilemma of Declawing: A Must-Watch for Cat Owners Declawing your cat might seem like a quick fix to save your furniture, but it's a decision that comes with serious consequences. This procedure involves the surgical removal of a cat's claws, which is akin to amputating a human finger at the first knuckle. It's extremely painful and can lead to long-term issues such as arthritis and behavioral changes. Instead of declawing, consider humane alternatives like providing scratching posts, using gel nail caps, and engaging in behavioral training. These methods allow your cat to engage in natural scratching behavior while protecting your furniture and family. #PetCare #VeterinarianTips #AnimalHealth #PetEmergency #DailyPetTips #PetWellness #AnimalFacts #PetOwnerGuide #PetHealthTips #VetNurse #FutureDoctor #PetLovers #AnimalLovers #PetTips #PetCareHacks Like, Share, and Subscribe for more amazing pet content!

This is National Dog Bite Prevention Week. So this #WellnessWednesday is all about dog bites. Any dog can bite: big or small, male or female, young or old. Even the cuddliest, fuzziest, sweetest pet can bite if provoked. Remember, it is not a dog's breed that determines whether it will bite, but rather the dog's individual history and behavior. Check out this informative guide from the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) on dog bite prevention. #WellnessWednesday #oakwellvet
