PUBLICATIONS | Competency development in higher education: Crafting the future self as a driver for change The latest article by Prof. Sara Bonesso, Prof. Laura Cortellazzo, Prof. Fabrizio Gerli, and Dr. Giulia Milani, phd candidate of the Venice School of Management. “ The paper analyzes 1352 personal visions - meaning the kind of person one wants to become in the future - written by students who attendend courses at the Ca' Foscari Competency Centre, over a time span of 9 years. The study proposes the personal vision as a methodological tool that is highly relevant in the development of the #social and #emotional #competences needed to achieve the desired future. In this way, the paper highlights how higher #education contexts could support students in acquiring the competences critical for attaining their professional #goals.” The paper won the prize for Best Student Paper at the #HEAd’24 Conference last Thursday, 20/6/2024. 📖Read the full paper: https://lnkd.in/dm9kE7wd 💡Keywords: Intentional change theory; ideal self; real self; social and emotional competencies; Higher Education. #bridgingideas #VSM #veniceschoolofmanagement #managementstudies

Happy to welcome the third batch of 10 FPM scholars to the research department at International School of Management Excellence. All the scholars come with exceptional corporate experience and will be a great addition to the research team. While addressing the students, I talked about the following 𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐥𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞 and our perception on what we know can be categorised as: 1) You Know what you Know 2) You Do not Know what you Know 3) You Know what you Do not Know 4) You Do not know what You You Do Not Know 𝐀𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐏𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐬 3 𝐚𝐧𝐝 4. 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐣𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐛𝐞 𝐟𝐮𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐝𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬 (𝐏𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭 3) 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰 𝐬𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐚𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬 (𝐏𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭 4). Advised scholars to get out of the consulting mind set (which falls under Point 2) because research is not about solving a problem but about extending the boundary of knowledge.

Conceptualisations of ‘critical thinking’ in environmental and sustainability education | Open Access Marthe Berg Andresen Reffhaug & Jonas Andreasen Lysgaard Pages: 1-16 | DOI: 10.1080/13504622.2024.2363848 Abstract Critical thinking as a concept, has a rich history and is central to much of the debate within international educational research and increasingly within environmental and sustainability education (ESE). Currently, it is gaining a foothold in the curriculum and in practice in Nordic countries. However, to date, there has been no proper account of what critical thinking entails in formal ESE settings in Nordic countries. In this article, we utilise a theoretically explorative approach to discuss the following research question: How can various conceptualisations of critical thinking be understood in relation to a selection of ESE positions and current challenges in the Nordic educational context? Through a theoretical exploration of critical thinking and action in relation to selected ESE positions, we find that although critical ESE positions favour critical thinking, which enables a strong degree of deliberate and detectable action, conceptualisations of critical thinking that promote cognitive skills are also important for critical ESE. #criticalthinking #criticalpedagogy #criticality #Nordiceducation #SDG4 #qualityeducation https://lnkd.in/gxvMCAh4

Tracking, measuring and comparing ultimate “real-world”impact is often elusive. However, using intermediate measures of resonance holds greater promise. One of the most significant of these measures is the use of teaching cases. This Financial Times article on the latest methodology for measuring and ranking business school research aligns with the philosophy at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University in our approach to teaching cases. To learn more about our philosophy, see this intro here: https://lnkd.in/eBNkBHdF Our full case catogue is available at https://lnkd.in/eaA7BuaC

📚 One month until my Graduate students begin their Research Methods course, kicking off a worldview and understanding of the WIM (what it means) behind high quality, rigorous, and methodologically sound research! 📚 To me this course is critical to inspiring thorough and evidence-based practitioners in every field. When I looked at my roster, I got butterflies just thinking about how these individuals will go on to impact their communities. So—here’s my ask from you (which will not fall into the rigorous research category, but simply add color to the also-highly-important “anecdotal crowd-sourced feedback” portion of my course): if you leverage research in your personal or professional sphere, please comment or DM me your response to the following questions! **How does research impact your life? How do you choose what research to turn to? When and why do you feel good sharing research with others?** #research #rigorous #methods #trust #pracitioners #makinghigherEdapplicable
