It is crucial to recognize the significant role of agriculture, especially in countries like Cambodia and Laos, where over 70% of the workforce is engaged in farming. The challenges confronting farmers, from limited access to essential resources to restricted market options, are increasingly evident. In response, the inclusive business model emerges as a deliberate intervention aimed at empowering these farmers and fostering societal progress. . Notably, the 80th session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) will be held from 22 to 26 April 2024 at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok, marking a pivotal moment for regional cooperation and development initiatives. This session will addressed pertinent issues surrounding agricultural sustainability and inclusive economic growth, aligning with the beliefs of empowering farmers and promoting equitable progress. It was an honour to be invited to this #OneHealh event. Presented on the IUCN’s engagement on the One Health in Asia. Emphasized IUCN’s commitment to addressing the complex linkages between human, wildlife, livestock, and ecosystem health. Stressed that biodiversity and climate actions are deeply intertwined and require a One Health perspective to achieve sustainable outcomes. Elaborated on IUCN’s contributions to global frameworks, particularly its support for implementing the CBD Biodiversity and Health Action Plan. Highlighted IUCN’s work in mainstreaming biodiversity-health interlinkages into national policies like NBSAPs, NDC and NAP and its focus on creating tools and guidance for preventing zoonotic spillovers and restoring ecosystems. The presentation showcased IUCN’s practical resources, such as the wildlife disease surveillance guideline developed in collaboration with WOAH, which provides comprehensive guidance on monitoring wildlife health. Another key resource, the Panorama Solutions Platform, has become a hub for conservation practitioners, featuring over 1,200 case studies, including those addressing wildlife health and zoonotic disease risks. Additionally, IUCN has developed guidelines for Protected and Conserved Area (PCA) managers to integrate One Health principles into sustainable tourism and disease management. Also highlighted IUCN’s regional initiatives, including the Nature for Health (N4H) scoping project in Vietnam, which aims to mitigate pandemic risks by strengthening environmental health measures. IUCN’s collaborations with organizations like WOAH, the CBD Subregional Technical Scientific Cooperation Centre, and the Asia Protected Areas Partnership have further bolstered regional efforts to align biodiversity and health governance. At the end outlined IUCN’s vision for the future, which includes enhancing capacity-building efforts, fostering stronger partnerships, and addressing health-conservation challenges through intersectoral approaches. Reinforcing IUCN’s pivotal role in advancing the One Health agenda, demonstrating how integrated solutions can address complex environmental and health challenges in Asia and beyond.

Representatives of the Norwegian Government Visit Innovative Plot in Guatemala The visit of Anne Beathe, Norway’s Minister of International Development, and Ragnhild Imerslund, Norway’s Ambassador to #Mexico and Central America, to the Lomas Abajo demonstration module in San Jacinto, Chiquimula, Guatemala—part of the InnovaHubs promoted by #CIMMYT and its collaborators in that country through the AgriLAC Resiliente initiative—on June 5. The presence of the minister and the ambassador highlights the Norwegian government’s support for initiatives like #CGIAR’s AgriLAC Resiliente, which shares a common vision of Latin American regional development within a framework of triangular cooperation between the Norwegian Embassy, the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (AMEXCID), and CIMMYT. This cooperation framework seeks to strengthen the innovation management model known as InnovaHub because it promotes constant interaction between farmers and their local allies, with whom technicians and researchers work hand-in-hand on the plots that are part of the physical infrastructure, such as the modules visited by the Norwegian government representatives, which serve as spaces for co-learning and validation of sustainable practices and technologies for the region. The work and actions in Guatemala are part of a methodology for accelerating agricultural innovation built on CIMMYT’s successful experiences in Mexico. In this sense, CIMMYT, together with other CGIAR Research Centers in the region—the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT, the International Potato Center (CIP), and the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI)—lead AgriLAC Resiliente and, through collaboration with various regional partners, have succeeded in establishing and operating two InnovaHubs in Guatemala—one in the eastern region and another in the western region—where organizations like ADIPAZ and ASORECH work closely in disseminating sustainable practices suited to each agricultural and sociocultural context. For the Norwegian government, which seeks to strengthen ties with the governments and societies of Mexico and Central America, the InnovaHubs model is ideal for connecting not only with national governments but also with local governments, producers, and a wide range of strategic actors. The Norwegian government, which, together with CIMMYT, already promotes Agriculture for Peace—drawing on the legacy of Norman Borlaug to promote peaceful and resilient societies through sustainable and inclusive agriculture—considers agriculture a vital means to promote social stability in rural areas as it supports income generation and contributes to political stability, hence its interest and support for the InnovaHubs’ efforts in promoting innovative and sustainable agriculture. "I was thrilled to moderate a high-level panel on 'Innovation and Scientific Research for Sustainable Processing Technologies' at the Seafood4Africa Forum held in Dakhla on 4-6 December 2024. With distinguished experts from research institutions, industry, and technology platforms, we explored how innovation is reshaping Morocco's fisheries sector. From cutting-edge processing technologies and cold chain innovations to the development of competitive clusters, the discussions highlighted Morocco's commitment to sustainable and value-added seafood production. Key takeaways: Innovation is no longer optional but a strategic imperative for the sector's sustainability and competitiveness Research-industry collaboration is crucial for accelerating innovation adoption Regional cooperation can play a vital role in technology transfer and knowledge sharing. It was particularly meaningful to return to Dakhla, where I had the honor of being part of the team that conducted the feasibility study for the new Dakhla Atlantic Port. Seeing this ambitious project becoming reality just a few kilometers from where the Forum is taking place fills me with immense satisfaction. Dakhla is truly emerging as a major hub for sustainable seafood innovation in Africa. #Seafood4Africa #Innovation #Sustainability #FisheriesIndustry #Morocco"
