Eleven developer-first startups were involved in transactions last week 👨🏻💻 💰 Here is what happened the week of October 28th, 2024: On the fundraising side, 1 pre-seed, 3 seed, 5 Series A and 2 Series B were announced, totalling $166 million. 🇮🇱Tel Aviv-based Zenity, a leader in securing and governing copilots and low-code development, addressing gaps left by traditional AppSec tools, raised the biggest round: a $38M Series B funding led by Third Point LLC and DTCP. Over the past few weeks we have come across several debates around valuations of AI startups, since we are involved in a few (Frammer, AiVANTA, Factacy, FIGG, Expertia etc). The usual argument is that the startups coming out of the East (India, Middle East etc) are building "wrapper" products leveraging existing LLMs or training LLMs with training data OR building "orchestration" mechanics to arrive at outcomes- but HEY MR. VC / INVESTOR, please note that the "value" that these startups are creating is REAL with actual fast / sustainable $$ in the bank, contracts in place and amazing customer adoption = welcome to the world of AI SaaS rocketships set to disrupt all types of enterprises / corporates. And then we have startups like Hebbia (link in the first comment below) "And its funding demonstrates that 50x annual recurring revenue (ARR) is becoming the norm for AI startups"

Data startups (and if you are an 'AI' tech startup - you are a data startup) do not live or die by their tech. They live or die by their data. If you rely on data to come in from somewhere else and have no control on the quantity nor quality of that data, you do not have a sustainable,secure business. If you are trying to raise funding AND don't go into the source of your data, you might get away with it because some follow-follow investors won't clock on (I've seen this) and it will end badly. There are digital supply chains too, not much is said about that. Increasingly this is going to be a thing. #data #startups #funding
