Last weekend our aerial surveillance aircraft was deployed for a long-range SAR tasking to provide top-cover for an Irish Coast Guard SAR helicopter, operated by CHC Ireland. This type of mission is only possible with fast and effective liaison between multiple organisations. This included HM Coastguard's own UK Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre, the Irish Coast Guard's Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Dublin, and MRSC in Valentia that assumed overall co-ordination, using in this instance the Waterford based Irish Coast Guard Helicopter R117, and NATS. Our East Midlands Airport-based service is operational 24/7. We are on standby to support our national and regional partners in the search and rescue community when needed. Airbus agrees record 44 H225 deal for German Federal Police missions Airbus Helicopters has agreed a record deal with the German Ministry of the Interior for up to 44 H225 helicopters for use by the country’s Federal Police. The agreement includes 38 firm orders with options for a further six helicopters. Deliveries are due to start in 2029. Bruno Even, CEO, Airbus Helicopters welcomed the opportunity to contribute to the security of Germany. “The Bundespolizei can look forward to a modern helicopter thanks to the continuous improvements we’ve made to our H225 in recent years. It will remain one of the most advanced helicopters available on the market for the decades to come,” he said. The new H225s will replace the H155 and AS332 helicopters that have been in service with the German Federal Police for more than 20 years. The H225’s payload, range and advanced systems make it suitable for a range of law enforcement and homeland security missions including firefighting, disaster relief and special forces transport, according to the manufacturer. The contract also includes training and spare part packages to ensure a smooth transition for pilots and maintenance personnel. The German Federal Police operates 94 Airbus helicopters. Collision Between Cargo Ship and Container Vessel Off the Coast of Sicily A collision between two large vessels off the coast of Sicily triggered an alert today, Monday, April 22, at the National Operational Center of the Coast Guard. The collision involved the Turkish-owed general cargo ship the HAYRIYE ANA flying the Liberian flag and the Peter Doehle-managed containership EF OLIVIA flying the Portuguese flag. The two vessels collided approximately 14 nautical miles from Capo Passero, the southeastern tip of the island of Sicily. Several rescue units were immediately dispatched, both naval and aerial. In addition to several patrol boats, the Italian Coast Guard deployed aircraft such as an AW139 helicopter and an Atr42 plane to the scene. The causes of the incident are yet to be determined. The two ships arrived safely at the port of Augusta, escorted by the Coast Guard patrol boats and monitored by an aircraft and helicopter. No consequences for the crews or damage to the marine environment. The ships will now be subjected to a PSC inspection by inspectors from the Maritime Directorate of Catania. ⛴👉🏼Follow us @salvage_and_wreck Tag your friends, and make sure to share (and credit) this footage! ⚓️ Stay tuned for news about maritime casualties! The rescue of three people from Buff Knoll on Sunday was an important milestone for our Police Air Wing – it was the first emergency winch rescue operation conducted with one of our new Airbus / Airbus Helicopters H145 helicopters. With strong media interest on the day, we were able to help arrange for some vision from the rescue operation to be released to newsrooms, and we followed it up today with Acting Commander Paul D. from our Counter Terrorism & Emergency Response Command speaking on 6PR Mornings with Gary Adshead. While the rescue itself was great news, the second story in this mix was more about the new helicopters. Given the adverse weather conditions, had we not had the new Airbus helicopters we would not have been able to attempt the rescue – the old helicopter, while it had served us very well over several decades, simply wouldn’t have been up to the task. That would have meant leaving the stranded people there for a longer period, or having to source air assets from other emergency response services. Being able to deploy one of the new police helicopters, which had the power and technology to be flown safely in the conditions being faced, meant other rescue assets such as the RAC Rescue helicopters could remain on standby for other medical emergencies requiring their onboard medical expertise. Having been involved in the promotion of the new Airbus helicopters when they were ordered, and when the first one was delivered, for me personally it is was nice to see that all the benefits I was helping promote regarding their enhanced capability and state-of-the-art technology have now been proven and realised in the field. Another great job by our Police Air Wing crew, who train to a very high standard to complete such rescues as quickly and safely as possible. #wa #police #wapolice #rescue #aviation #helicopter #airbus #h145

Wildfires are raging in North Macedonia and Bulgaria. Our EU Civil Protection Mechanism is providing help in the form of helicopters and other aircrafts from Serbia, Slovenia Türkiye, Croatia and Czechia. Some of these aircrafts are part of the rescEU firefighting fleet, funded by the EU - for others, the EU coordinates the help and reimbourses a part of the related costs. When it comes to natural hazards, preparedness is key. The Commission has put together a fleet of aircraft and pre-positioned firefighters this summer across Europe. 556 firefighters from 12 countries are strategically prepositioned across key locations in Europe this summer, such as France, Greece, Portugal, and Spain, ready to help local fire brigades. The EU has assembled a dedicated rescEU fleet of firefighting aircraft for this summer, consisting of 28 airplanes and 4 helicopters stationed in 10 Member States.
