This edition will introduce a new All-Stars category, featuring top rally drivers, alongside the returning #Rally2, #Rally4 and Historic Rally categories. "Rallying can be a little different depending on the country," explained Carlos Sainz, the double FIA World Rally Champion and four-time #Dakar Rally winner. "Tarmac, for example, is not the most usual surface on continents like #Africa and #SouthAmerica. The FIA Motorsport Games was created to concentrate, during a single weekend, all the motorsport activity worldwide. For this, sporting regulations should encourage every country to be present, so I welcome this increase of categories, especially in rallying.” FIA road sport director Andrew Wheatley added, “Female and male competitors from around the globe, representing their national ASN in modern and historic cars, will be joined by the world's top rally drivers to compete in Spain, showcasing the depth, talent and incredible diversity within the rallying community. 🏁 If you talk about #sports, motorsports won't always feature at the top of the conversation. From my point of view motorsport is comparable to many other sports with the added variable of the vehicle. Material and technology is part of many other sports (e.g. Cycling, bobsleigh, biathlon or even swimming) but within motorsports technology and material has a clearly visible and high impact on performance. 🏍️ The #MotoGP race in Jerez this past weekend delivered heart-stopping moments and intense battles on the track. It was the reigning champion Francesco (Pecco) Bagnaia who took victory after a fierce battle with the eight-time world Champion Marc Marquez. The last few laps were incredible and showcased motorsports in its purest form. Given the fact that Marquez rides the last years Ducati in a private team compared to Pecco riding for the Ducati factory team with the newest specification of the 2024 bike it will be exciting to see whether Marquez will be able to win and outweigh the potential disadvantage of an year old bike. Nevertheless, the visceral experience of watching these fearless riders push the limits of man and machine is unmatched. At the finish line the gap was only 0.372 seconds between the two contenders. ⏳ I am excited to see what the recent acquisition of the MotoGP through Liberty Media will bring to the series. Liberty Media have shown that they are able to expand the reach and excitement of a motorsport series globally. Their success with Formula 1 is proven but as a petrol head I must admit that the modern Formula 1 is drifting into a direction that is not in my favour. Don't get me wrong, I love Formula 1 - the precision engineering, the strategic prowess, the glitz and glamour—it's all part of what makes F1 so captivating. But there's something about the raw, unbridled passion of MotoGP that sets my pulse racing like nothing else. 🤔 I am curious to find out if there will be a change within the next year in viewership and the fanbase of MotoGP. Do you prefer MotoGP or Formula 1? #MotoGP #sportsmarketing Dorna Sports

The 2024 Formula 1 season kicked off this past weekend at the Bahrain International Circuit, however, the initial race has spurred intriguing discussions among fans and analysts, perhaps to the disappointment of Liberty Media, owners of Formula 1. A skepticism amongst some fans last year was Max Verstappen’s dominance which saw him winning 19 of the season’s 22 races. This broke his own record of 15 wins during the 2022 season. While Verstappen's brilliance is undeniable, some fans yearn for heightened competition in the highly regarded motorsports league. According to Dutch newspaper De Limburger, even Verstappen’s fan base was beginning to show signs of “saturation” towards the end of last season, with many viewing his dominance as a potential downside for Formula 1. This insight aligns with a 10% dip in U.S. viewership despite a 25% surge in Formula 1's overall revenue to $3.2 billion in 2024. This potentially shows that passionate fans are increasing while casual fans are decreasing. Although the start of the racing season should be exciting, many fans were disappointed by another definitive Verstappen performance, that saw him emerging victorious by over 22 seconds. F1 Content Creator @_aarava with over 122,000 followers on X seems to think that the season’s champion is already certain as he already posted, “Congratulations to Max Verstappen for winning the 2024 F1 World Championship”. Another fan also seems to be fed up as they also posted on X saying, “F1 2024 will be even more boring than 2023. Time to turn off the TV and hope next year is better.” This sentiment of disappointment seemed to be echoed amongst many Formula 1 fans as 46.9% of social media conversation about Formula 1 was flagged as negative this past weekend, Furthermore, 52.9% of conversation around Verstappen’s team, Red Bull, was negative. Formula 1 has tried to close the gap between the dominant teams such as Red Bull and teams that generally struggle such as Haas, Kick Sauber, RB and Williams by implementing a cost cap. Although that has brought the best and worst teams closer together, it has not reduced the frequency of Red Bull’s appearances on the podium. 2024 is bringing even more changes to the cost cap, giving the less successful teams more money to spend on Capital Expenditure to upgrade their facilities. While these changes didn't immediately impact the Bahrain race, the season is young, and their effects could certainly become more apparent over time. Even more car regulations are set to be put in effect for the 2026 season that will reportedly make the cars lighter, give them more horsepower, and require a more strategic approach from drivers and their teams. This could further improve the competitive balance, but the only problem may be that if Verstappen’s dominance continues until then, Formula 1 fans may grow tired. Is there a realistic solution or should Red Bull’s greatness be admired? #NorthStarSG #sportsbiz #Formula1 #F1

The 2024 Formula 1 season Formula 1 has returned for its 75th running of the World Championship. The 2024 FIA Formula 1 World Championship started off on February 21, with three days of preseason testing at the Bahrain International Circuit, which will also host the first race of the season on March 2. This season will feature 24 Grands Prix in 21 countries across five continents, with the United States and Italy as the only countries hosting more than one race. The countries hosting the races are Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Japan, China, the U.S., Italy, Monaco, Canada, Spain, Austria, Britain, Hungary, Belgium, the Netherlands, Azerbaijan, Singapore, Mexico, Brazil, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi. Six of the races will feature sprint races: the Chinese, Miami, Austrian, U.S., Sao Paulo, and Qatar Grands Prix. The sprint weekend format was changed for this year’s season with the intention of separating the sprint events from the race events. This year, there will be one practice session on Friday that will be followed by a sprint shootout, which will determine the starting grid for the sprint. The sprint will then be held on Saturday, followed by a qualifying session for the main race. The main race will be held on Sunday. For the first time in the sport’s history, all teams maintained their driver lineups from the previous season. However, more than 10 of the drivers will be out of contracts with their teams at the end of the 2024 season. So far, Lewis Hamilton, George Russell, Oscar Piastri, Charles Leclerc, Lando Norris, and Max Verstappen are the only drivers who have secured team placements beyond the year. Two teams were rebranded: Alpha Tauri Honda RBPT and Alfa Romeo Ferrari. As Sauber prepares to become the Audi works team in 2026, they ended their partnership with Alfa Romeo in 2023. The team has now been rebranded to Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber for the next two seasons before a rebrand comes along again in 2026 as the Audi works team. The Alpha Tauri team was rebranded as the Visa Cash App RB F1 Team. Visa is now a global partner for both the Red Bull Racing team and Visa Cash App RB on a multi-year agreement. A few rules were changed for the 2024 season. This year, drivers are allowed to use DRS one lap after the race has started, on a safety car restart, or on a red flag restart. The power unit allocation per season was increased from three to four per driver. This year, the proposed trial for a ban on tyre blankets was cast aside. Pirelli will remain the official tyre supplier, but the “alternative tyre allocation” that was trialled last year will not be carried on this season. The C0 tyre compound, which was the hardest tyre in the dry tyre range, will not be included in the tyre line-up. And lastly, as a result of the cockpit overheating during last year’s Qatar Grand Prix, teams will be allowed to install a scoop on the car in order to cool down the cockpit area and the driver. #Formula1 #F1 #2024

The third round of the season of the FIM Superbike World Championship will start this weekend at the TT Circuit in Assen, in The Netherlands. Pirelli confirms the options already deployed in 2023 for both the WorldSSP and WorldSBK classes, with the addition for the latter of the development rear SCX with C0900 specification, already seen in action in Barcelona both in testing and in the race. At the "Cathedral of Speed", as the Assen circuit is informally called, the young riders of the Northern Talent Cup will also take to the track, for which Pirelli is the sole supplier from this year as for all the other championships of the Road to MotoGP™ project. Tyre allocation: in addition to the aforementioned SCX in C0900 specification, WorldSBK riders will have access to the SC1 and SC2 standard solutions at the front and SCX and SC0 at the rear, in addition to the SCQ exclusively intended for use in Superpole and Superpole Race. In case of rain, which is often a real possibility at Assen at this time of year, there will be intermediate and SCR1 wet tyres on both the front and rear. In WorldSSP riders will be able to choose between SC1 and SC2 for the front and SCX and SC0 for the rear, with the SCR1 as the wet option. Asphalt and temperatures: at this time of year, the area where the historic Assen circuit is located is often affected by rain and it can still be quite cold, with asphalt temperatures that can be as low as 4°C, as happened in 2022. Despite these temperatures, usually the not particularly abrasive asphalt can allow teams and riders to find set ups suitable for softer solutions. · Turn 5: the Assen track is feared by the riders due to the first left corner, which comes after four consecutive right corners and is located in a part of the circuit often subject to cold winds, which makes the management of the front tyre temperature and caution when entering of vital importance. Pirelli for the Northern Talent Cup: the bikes of the young riders - aged between 14 and 17 - competing in the Northern Talent Cup will be equipped with Pirelli DIABLO Superbike slick tyres in SC2 compound, 100/70 R17 at the front and 120/70 R17 at the rear. In case of rain, SCR1 compound is available in same sizes for the front and 125/70 R17 at the rear.

The 2024 Formula 1 season is set to be a historic one, featuring several noteworthy changes and developments. It marks the introduction of the most extensive F1 calendar in the history of the sport, with an unprecedented 24 races scheduled, including six Sprint races. This expansion ensures that the excitement of F1 will be distributed more broadly throughout the year, with the season commencing in Bahrain on March 2 and concluding in Abu Dhabi on December 8. In terms of team dynamics, the 2024 season will see significant changes. Notably, Alfa Romeo, operated by the Sauber organization, has ended its naming rights partnership. Consequently, the team has been rebranded as Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber. Similarly, Aston Martin is set to undergo a subtle name change following a new title sponsorship agreement with Aramco. Furthermore, there's anticipation around AlphaTauri's potential rebranding, which is yet to be fully revealed. Another unique aspect of the 2024 season is the stability in the driver lineup. For the first time in F1 history, there are no changes in the driver roster from the previous season, meaning all drivers from 2023 will continue with their respective teams in 2024. This consistency allows for enhanced team synergy and longer-term performance analysis. The season also sees the return of the Chinese Grand Prix at the Shanghai International Circuit, marking its first appearance since 2019 due to COVID-19 restrictions. Additionally, the Japanese Grand Prix has been rescheduled from its usual October slot to April 7, indicating a strategic reshuffling of the race calendar. An interesting feature of the upcoming season is the inclusion of three Saturday races. This adjustment is made to accommodate Ramadan, with the opening rounds in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia moving to Saturdays, and Las Vegas retaining its late Saturday night slot. Overall, the 2024 Formula 1 season promises to be one of the most thrilling and dynamic, with its record-breaking calendar, team changes, stable driver lineup, and the return of previously absent grand prix events.
