This Christmas, International Health Partners is focused on one mission: improving child health and creating brighter futures for vulnerable children across the globe. 💫 The four-week campaign, running from November 25th, will highlight the critical health challenges facing children in regions like East Africa, South Asia and the Middle East. A few key facts: 👉 Over 6 million children in Kenya are at risk of soil-transmitted helminths (STH), which cause debilitating health issues and long-term developmental consequences. 👉 In Gaza, the ongoing crisis is compounded by winter temperatures that increase health risks, particularly for children in overcrowded shelters. 👉 In Malawi, access to life-saving cancer treatment for children remains limited, and many children miss their chance at survival due to delayed diagnoses and a lack of resources. At IHP, we know that partnerships with the pharmaceutical and logistics industries, and NGOs, are key to overcoming these challenges. As we launch this campaign, we’re calling on all our partners to help amplify our efforts—together, we can drive sustainable change and reach those most in need.

The objective of the first session of this webinar series is to provide an overview of – and discuss – the Global Health and Peace Initiative, what it is and is not; and to illustrate what ‘Health and Peace programming’ can look like through the case of a WHO-IOM project implemented in Cameroon titled ‘Peace through health: Peacebuilding and violence reduction in communities in the far-north through inclusive health and social interventions’ (2021-2023), funded by the Peacebuilding Fund (PBF). https://lnkd.in/e34GJj_u

The conference served as a global platform for experts and practitioners to explore innovative solutions addressing inequities in reproductive, maternal, and child health. Karim highlighted the success of the Pathways project in various countries, delving into its methodologies and practical applications. During the three-day event, Karim not only gained valuable insights but also explored strategies to adapt this transformative initiative for Pakistan. These learnings and global connections are set to bolster efforts toward advancing health equity in underserved communities.

Mpox and Lessons Learned from COVID-19   As we tackle the current Mpox outbreak in Africa and beyond, it’s crucial to reflect on the key lessons from past disease outbreaks, especially COVID-19. Recently, I reviewed UNICEF EAPRO’s report, “Risk Communication and Community Engagement for COVID-19: Experiences and Lessons Learned.” This report offers valuable insights from various countries in the region, many of which are applicable in other regions.   One critical aspect highlighted in the report is - the often-overlooked - need for robust community feedback and social listening systems. These systems are essential for establishing regular and effective feedback mechanisms, enabling countries to plan and design community engagement initiatives based on actual needs. This approach also informs program design and delivery.   In my experience, community feedback mechanisms are often initiated – especially during emergencies - without sustainability guarantees.   I would love to hear your experiences and any resources you might have on this topic.
