💦 NAWM celebrates Native American Heritage Month. Wetlands and other water resources hold cultural significance to many tribal communities. Wetlands plants may be used for sustenance; for medicinal, healing, and ceremonial purposes; or for weaving baskets and textiles. Fish and wildlife that live in wetlands may also be sources of food. Further, wetlands may be sites of cultural importance to a community. Many tribal communities undertake efforts to protect and restore these valuable resources. Development of a Tribal Wetland Program is an opportunity for a tribal community to identify priorities and implement plans for managing and protecting their wetland resources. Heritage Day is a day to reflect on where we come from. To celebrate our ancestors and the gifts and blessings that they have bestowed on us - individually and collectively. It should also be a day to look ahead, as our actions today create the future for those who follow us. We need to ask ourselves: What heritage are we crafting? What gifts and blessings are we preparing to bestow to those who come after us? What seeds are we planting for future harvest?

✈️ Let’s Go—Take Action, and Open your Wings to Fly Higher!✈️ We were built for motion. As humans, we’ve always been explorers, creators, and movers. Only in recent generations has a more *sedentary existence* become the norm. And I am asking? Do you want to be the norm, or do you want to be all that? Just because we *can* sit still doesn’t mean we *should*! 🛑 "Feet on the ground will never teach you to fly—only by leaping, stumbling, and rising again do we learn to touch the sky." Truth be told: **inaction** holds us back far more than any mistakes ever will. Sitting still, fearing failure, keeps us grounded when we were meant to soar. 🚀 💡 Remember when you learned to ride a bike? 🚲 I recall the day still…I was 6…. Once, I got up on my bike, I hit my entire body against a bus…Thank God it was stopped. Did it hurt? Yes it did…do you want to know what I did next apart from crying and looking at my mother? I got back up and on that bike in the next 5 minutes…and I fell again. Screamed like hell and all…Srull crying and looking at my mother… So, You also probably fell a few times as well right? But with every scrape and wobble, you were taught balance. Didn’t you? But guess what? It wasn’t the falling that defined you—it was the *getting back up*. Got it now? The same goes for life and work. **Take action, even if it means making mistakes.** Those stumbles help you course-correct, learn, and grow. Repeat. Again and again. And If you simply wait for that “perfect” moment or the “perfect” idea, you’ll stay grounded forever till the time that you won’t be able to get back up… So, let’s reclaim our natural drive for movement and growth. 🌍 Whether it’s making bold career moves, reading a new book, going back to your studies, getting on your coaching hat, starting a new project, or simply getting outside for that run—**move forward**. The National Park Service's Tribal Heritage Grants Program (THG) is now accepting applications for competitive grants. National Park Service’s Tribal Heritage Grants Program focuses on protecting oral histories, plant and animal species important in tradition, sacred and historic places, and enabling the establishment of tribal historic preservation offices. The THG Program is funded by the Historic Preservation Fund (HPF) and is administered by the NPS. Congress has appropriated $600,000 for the THG Program. Applications are due February 27, 2025. Available Grant Funding Grants are awarded through a competitive process and do not require non-Federal match. Federally-recognized Indian Tribes, Native Alaska Villages/Corporations, and Native Hawaiian Organizations (as defined by 54 U.S.C. § 300309, 54 U.S.C. 300313, and 54 U.S.C. 300314) are eligible to receive THGs for cultural and historic preservation projects.
