Physical Therapy Guide to Frozen Shoulder (Adhesive Capsulitis) Often called a stiff or "frozen shoulder," adhesive capsulitis occurs in about 2% to 5% of the American population. It affects women more than men and is typically diagnosed in people over the age of 45. Of the people who have had adhesive capsulitis in 1 shoulder, it is estimated that 20% to 30% will get it in the other shoulder as well. Physical therapists help people with adhesive capsulitis address pain and stiffness, and restore shoulder movement in the safest and most effective way possible. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gZuqAvh2

Story on BBC about vagus nerve stimulation enhancing the effects of arm/hand training after stroke. It speaks to our need to believe in something new https://lnkd.in/eG9Vp5ZF To qualify for this (and many other 'experimental' treatments) you need to have at least 10 degrees of wrist/finger extension. As long as these people get good physio/OT/movement training for long enough, they should all recover reasonable arm/hand function. The question then is not 'what' but 'how' to provide existing (not new) treatment that already works for as many people as possible. From a scientific perspective, it's the people without finger movement we should turn our attention to .....

Physical Therapy Guide to Hyperkyphosis (Humpback) Hyperkyphosis is a spinal deformity causing a forward-curved posture of the upper back (thoracic spine). Posture is the way you position your body. Posture changes throughout the day depending on what you are doing and how long you have been doing it. Sometimes, a person's posture can cause the upper back curvature to become excessive and stiff. When this happens, it can be difficult to reverse. Sometimes called "humpback," "round back," or "dowager's hump," this condition can occur at any age. Most often, the curvature begins to increase in people over age 40 and continues as they age. Around 20% to 40% of older adults — both men and women — will develop the condition. Physical therapists help people with hyperkyphosis: Address functional limitations. Build strength. Improve balance. https://lnkd.in/gkjxWfK4 #spectrumtherapy #physicaltherapy #physicaltherapyelpaso #elpasotexas #qualitymatters #7locations
