🚨 100 Miles, 24 Hours, One Mission: Escape from Meriden for Alzheimer's Research UK 🚨 On Friday, November 15th, at 11:59:59 PM, I’ll be embarking on one of my biggest challenges yet: a 24-hour, running event called Escape from Meriden. It’s a nonstop endurance test where I’ll have to carry everything I need or buy supplies along the way, traveling as far as possible before the clock strikes midnight again the next night. My aim will be to cover a minimum of 100 miles. This is more than just a run. I’m running to raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer’s Research UK, a cause incredibly close to my heart. Alzheimer's steals memories, independence, and so much more from those affected and their families. Research is the key to unlocking a cure, and together, we can make a difference. Every pound raised goes directly to Alzheimer's Research UK to help advance treatments and bring us closer to a cure. Whether it’s £1 or £100, every bit of support brings us closer to a world without Alzheimer’s. https://lnkd.in/e7e9g5gi Thank you for your support – let’s go the distance together, for a future free from Alzheimer’s. #EscapeFromMeriden #AlzheimersResearch #24HourChallenge #RunningForACure #SupportTheFight

Hi Linkedin 👋 *personal post alert* My 60 year old dad is running the Leeds marathon in May for the Alzheimer's Society - a cause very close to our hearts. Although it's quite last minute we hope to raise as much money as possible to support the charity. For those who aren't aware, here are some key facts about Dementia: ✴ Dementia is the leading cause of death in the UK, accounting for over 74,000 deaths in 2022. ✴ 1 in 3 people born in the UK today will be diagnosed with dementia in their lifetime ✴ Compared to other major health conditions, investment research in dementia remains low. ✴ The number of people with dementia is predicted to rise to over 1.1 million by 2030 and 1.6 million by 2040. ✴ Dementia is one of the UK's biggest health and social care crises. Please join us in supporting the fantastic work that the Alzheimer's Society does by donating using the link below ✨ https://lnkd.in/enZQ5rYx

💜My mother, Josefina Cruz Gutiérrez, passed away💔from complications from Alzheimer’s disease eight years ago today - October 16, 2016. She was a remarkably giving woman - a giver, she always put others first. I miss her so much. Her beautiful smile radiated love and joy. I miss her today and every single day of my life. I find strength in knowing we will see each other again. 🌺I channel my grief by raising awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia and funds for the Alzheimer's Association, Georgia Chapter. Please consider making a donation to my 2024 #Walk2EndAlz at https://lnkd.in/eVQeQ7_h To cope with her loss and honor her memory, I authored JOSEFINA: a Memoir available on Amazon in English (https://a.co/d/dzqkNKT) 📖 and Spanish (https://a.co/d/4Vpdntq) and via my website (www.bjwwassociates.com). That endeavor led me to the discovery of research findings linking modifiable, or lifestyle, factors to an increased risk for dementia, which if avoided or timely addressed may potentially delay, or prevent, the onset of Alzheimer’s. That newfound knowledge cemented my belief that through communication, education, and prevention we may be able to make changes that may, in turn, alter the course of a trend that threatens our present and our future and the well-being of millions of people around the world. January marks Alzheimer's (the most common cause of Dementia) Awareness Month and in Canada we have over 600,000 people living with this condition, impacting not only themselves, but their loved ones and caregivers as well. By 2030, research suggests that 1 million people in Canada will be living with Dementia. This month, I encourage you and your family to learn more about dementia risk reduction. Choose one habit that you can change or improve such as being more physically active, socializing regularly, or having a healthier, more balanced diet. Engaging in these healthy behaviors can help reduce the risk of dementia and delay the onset of symptoms, thereby improving your quality of life as you age. This is a cause that I personally support and dedicate time and effort to make an impact (big or small it really doesn’t matter: have you tried sleeping in a room with a mosquito in it?). As such, I have participated every year in the Bike for Brain Health event happening in Toronto (this year on June 1st) and raise funds to support Baycrest – global leader in geriatric care including in patient, research, etc. Last year I was able to raise a little over $1500 and this year I am looking to beat that AND ask you to join me ride up and down the DVP. Join my team: Please go to Bike for Brain Health TD Peloton link to register – there's distances for everyone and this is a great event to have your family (including kids) participate. If riding isn’t for you: Please donate at Bike for Brain Health TD Peloton – Tiago Taborda link. #keepsmilingkeepdiscovering https://lnkd.in/gTMftaPT

Dementia is a devastating disease that affects countless families across the UK. Every three minutes, someone new is diagnosed, and currently, there is no cure. It's a reality that has hit close to home for our family, as we watch our loved one navigate the challenges of living with dementia. We believe it's crucial to confront this pressing health and social care issue head-on. With over 900,000 people in the UK currently living with dementia, the need for change and support has never been more urgent. That's why we're participating in the Memory Walk 2024, specifically the Nottingham Memory Walk on October 12th. By joining us or making a donation, you can play a vital role in driving this much-needed change and providing essential day-to-day support for those affected by dementia. Your generosity will directly benefit Alzheimer's Society and contribute to ensuring that families impacted by dementia receive the care and support they deserve. As we look back on 2024, we’re proud to share the incredible difference the UCLA Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care Program has made in the lives of patients and caregivers. Their impact is why we are honored to call them one of our beneficiaries. Here are just a few of their remarkable achievements last year: • Over 4,300 patients and caregivers served, providing much-needed education, support, and relief. • Caregivers reported less stress and depression, and patients experienced fewer behavioral symptoms like agitation and apathy. • Expanded reach to 30 new healthcare sites nationwide to bring this life-changing program to more communities. Looking Ahead to 2025 The program aims to: • Care for 1,500 UCLA patients living with dementia. • Grow their team and form new community partnerships to extend their reach. Remember, your donation to Racing to End Alzheimer’s is matched, doubling your impact for families facing Alzheimer’s and dementia. The Hardest and Most Fulfilling Job: Caring for My Mom Last year, my life changed forever when my mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Taking care of her has been the hardest and most fulfilling job I’ve ever had. Every day brings new challenges, but also moments of profound new discovery of patience, grace and compassion. Alzheimer’s and elder care are areas that desperately need more support from our healthcare system and benefits from companies. Alzheimer's doesn't just affect the individual diagnosed - it impacts entire families and communities. The emotional, physical, and financial toll on families is immense, and yet, resources and assistance are often limited. We need to do better for our loved ones and for the caregivers who support them. By coming together, we can work towards better support systems, improved care options, and ultimately, a cure. On September 28th, I will be participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. This event is free to join, and they simply ask for donations to help fund research and support services. If this cause speaks to your heart, I would be incredibly grateful for any donation, even $5, to help fund research and find a cure for this devastating disease. Every little bit counts and can make a huge difference. To those in similar situations: you're not alone. To everyone else: your support means more than you know. Let's take steps together to end Alzheimer's. #EndAlzheimers #WalkToEndAlzheimers #Caregiving #Healthcare #Support #AlzheimersAwareness
