Barriers to knowledge transfer in healthcare impact both patients and physicians, often leading to decisions based on incomplete information and poorer health outcomes. But can open access (OA) be the means to break down these barriers? Insights from Pfizer’s Publications Management Team highlight how OA can drive equity and transparency while ensuring timely access to medical research. Read the latest blog on Altmetric authored by Pfizer colleagues Catherine Skobe, Seth James and Digital Science’s Misha Kidambi to find out more, and understand how tools from Altmetric and Dimensions can be useful for assessing publications’ performance, whether OA or closed. 🔗 https://ow.ly/NhIx50TQBxF #OpenAccess #healthcare #PatientCentricity #BiomedicalResearch #Altmetric

I'm honoured to have contributed my insights to Lord Darzi's research on the use of technology in the NHS, which informed his recent report. The report emphasises the transformative potential of technology in healthcare, particularly in improving workflows, saving time, reducing costs, and enhancing patient safety. Lord Darzi advocates for a "full automation" strategy to alleviate administrative burdens and enhance patient care. By automating tasks like communicating medical notes, booking appointments, and processing prescriptions, the NHS could potentially save billions annually. This approach aims to complement human skills rather than replace them, allowing healthcare professionals to focus more on direct patient care. The report also highlights the integration of advanced technologies in clinical settings, which could improve diagnostic accuracy and assist in patient care. These advancements are expected to expand over the next decade, providing clinicians with more time for patient interaction. Being part of Lord Darzi's research process was an incredible opportunity to influence the future of healthcare in the UK. This collaboration underscores my commitment to ensuring that digital innovations are at the forefront of improving patient outcomes and operational efficiency in the NHS. I look forward to seeing these recommendations implemented and the positive impact they will have on the NHS and its patients. #Pharmacy #Pharmacist #HealthTech #DigitalHealth #PMR #HealthcareInnovation #PatientSafety #MedicationManagement #HealthcareIT #HealthCarePolicy #TechInPharmacy #EfficiencyInHealthcare #PharmacyManagement #CostReduction #NHSInnovation #PharmacyTechnology #HealthcareEfficiency #PharmacyWorkflow #DigitalTransformation #HealthcareSolutions

Nice interview with my colleague Peter Oosterhoff of TechMed Centre - University of Twente! Another example how the four Dutch technical universities join forces (as 4TU.Federation). By working together with hospitals and universities of applied sciences the MDR work grouping, backed by 4TU.Health centre, shares knowledge and experiences, can act as and advisory board to external authorities and functions as a source of information for researchers. | University of Twente | TU Delft | Technische Universiteit Eindhoven | Wageningen University & Research |
The MDR in practice: learning from experiences together. Since its introduction in 2021, the MDR legislation 💼has had a significant impact on everyone involved in healthcare innovations ✨ To support and guide the practical application of these regulations in academic research, the MDR Working group was established. This collaborative group, which is backed by the 4TU.Health centre, includes representatives from the four technical universities🎓, hospitals🏥 and universities of applied sciences. By sharing valuable insights and experiences, the group serves as an advisory body for external authorities and acts as a key source of information for researchers. Curious to learn more? Accuracy in Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROM) scores is so important for effective clinical decisions and remote monitoring. 🎯 At Open Medical, supported by funding from the NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research) i4i FAST, our team created and tested a method to verify the accuracy of digital health score calculators. And this work has significantly enhanced our PROM solution, Pathpoint Outcomes. When patients fill out a PROM form using Pathpoint Outcomes, our system automatically calculates the score.📊 Not only does this save time for nurses and doctors by eliminating manual calculations but it also ensures that the scores they receive are precise and reliable.
