In the 2025 edition of Commercial Dispute Resolution Essential Intelligence - Belt & Road Initiative, Dr Colin Ong KC of Dr Colin Ong Legal Services discussed the possibility of setting up a dispute settlement mechanism (DSM) for Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) disputes that may take place along the BRI’s Maritime Silk Road. It focuses upon contractual disputes that may take place between a Chinese party and an Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN) party, but may be subsequently extended to the rest of the countries along the Maritime Road and potentially across the BRI’s Land Belt. On November 21, 2024, the Thailand Arbitration Center (THAC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Beihai Asia International Arbitration Centre (BAIAC). The MoU was signed by Mr. Suriyapong Thabtimtae, Director of THAC, and Professor Steve Ngo, President & Executive Director of BAIAC, with the aim of enhancing arbitration cooperation between Thailand and Singapore. The collaboration focuses on promoting arbitration as a key mechanism for resolving international disputes.

On 9 December 2024, the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) announced the official release of the 7th edition of the Arbitration Rules of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC Rules 2025). The SIAC Rules 2025 will come into force on 1 January 2025 and demonstrate a welcome focus on improving the efficiency of SIAC-administered arbitrations, including for matters of relatively lower monetary value. VdA takes part in the Brazilian Arbitration Forum Mariana França Gouveia participates as a speaker in the 7th edition of the Brazilian Arbitration Forum, in the panel entitled: " Use (or abuse) of interim measures in international arbitration - Franco-lusophone perspectives". This event brings together arbitration professionals and experts to debate relevant topics within the scope of international dispute resolution. The panel in which Mariana França Gouveia takes part will analyse the use of interim measures in international arbitration, addressing the following questions: when and how interim measures should be requested, and under what circumstances they can be decisive for the outcome of a dispute. In addition, a comparative analysis will be carried out between the approaches adopted in Brazil, France and Portugal. The Brazilian Arbitration Forum will be held on September 13 in Paris. The Singapore International Arbitration Centre published the 7th edition of its rules on arbitration. The updated rules, which come into force on January 1, 2025, are of substantial importance to cross-border businesses active in Asia and globally given that SIAC has in recent years become one of the premiere global arbitration institutions, with Singapore now one of the two most preferred seats for international arbitration proceedings.
