While your practice may never bring you to the well of the Court, all attorneys should have the opportunity to take part in this once-in-a-lifetime moment." Today's post is on "At the Altar of the Appellate Gods: Arguing before the US Supreme Court," by Lisa Sarnoff Gochman. She tells her journey to the SCOTUS and arguing before the Court on her case. It is an excellent memoir. Her case involved a violent, racially motivated crime. The book can be found at https://lnkd.in/gGTqz8MB

The Sentencing Council is seeking feedback on proposed improvements to guidance on ancillary orders available on conviction. Judges, magistrates, legal advisers, and lawyers are invited to share their views on the clarity, accuracy, and usefulness of the new and revised guidance. Of particular interest is the unlawful profit order for sub-letting convictions, with new guidance in development. Question 33 in the Consultation Paper seeks comments on the content of this guidance and the related sentencing guidelines. Don't miss the opportunity to contribute to shaping these important guidelines. Provide your feedback before the consultation closes on December 4, 2024. This morning I presented at the National Organization of Bar Investigators (OBI) Conference, on the intersection of post-conviction, the code of professional conduct, and criminal law. This was a terrific audience, who rolled with me as I discussed a terrible case that I’ve gotten to work on. Thank you to the OBI planning committee, including Haley McAbee, OBI President James Easoz, and Chief Disciplinary Counsel for the State Bar of Texas Seana Willing for inviting me.

Does the judge on your case matter? Absolutely, but maybe not for the reasons you think. 🤔 In Los Angeles, judges aren’t biased by gender—but each judge has a unique approach to cases, with their own judicial philosophy. At Provinziano & Associates, we know the local rules, understand each judge’s style, and focus on presenting your case with precision. It's how we apply the law to your specific facts that truly makes the difference. 💼 #LosAngelesLaw #FamilyLaw #ProvinzianoAndAssociates
