Inspiring human connection & wellbeing through kindness and communication

Today is the start of Volunteers Week. This year will see celebrations because it’s 40 years since the week started. That’s a lot of volunteering hours that have been celebrated! Over the years I’ve written several blogs about communicating with volunteers. I’ll pop a link in the comments. If you’ve only got time for the edited highlights version, here are 5 things I wanted my organisation to know when I was a volunteer: 1.      Have a clear conversation at the outset to set out not only what is expected of me, but why. 2.      Tailor your communications with me to recognise why I choose to get involved and the role that I play while I’m here. 3.      Share the stories of the difference I am part of. 4.      Listen to me. 5.      Recognise that I’m not available all the time. I’m on a break from any volunteering role at the moment, but I fully intend to get back to it in the future. There are so many benefits to both the individual and the organisation. If you’re a volunteer, what are the things that you enjoy most about it? #VolunteersWeek #volunteering #EffectiveCommunication
