Attention all disabled Linkers, and their friends, neighbours, family, work colleagues..... Urgent call out!! *Needed by Monday* Please help make accessing employment, transport, healthcare, recreational facilities and many more places less of a barrier for disabled people! Access isn't just a ramp....and actually, did you know that despite the global symbol for disability being someone in a wheelchair, just 8% of disabled people are wheelchair users! Why do people need to see where they're going ahead of visiting somewhere new? Here's some reasons I can think of: Neurodivergent folk like me, can feel extremely anxious when planning a new journey. Those of us with spinal disabilities, need to know if there's enough suitable and supportive seats, at regular intervals for us to rest. Will all the seats be standard conference seats at an event, if so I need to see those chairs, because they may hurt me and cause me more disabilities (pain exacerbates my conditions). All of the above anxiety & potential injury, can be alleviated or avoided if I could see the venue, ahead of me planning to go! It is a game changer! Now, I've already filled this questionnaire out for Ocean3D.co.uk but Chris Wood needs your help....as the more people who have their say, the more chances of Chris getting GOV.UK to successfully implement this so it benefits all of us! #Disability #AccessibilityMatters #HelpNeeded Tagging in some people who might be able to help: Jamie Shields Celia Chartres-Aris (née Hensman) Sandra Bentley Isaac Harvey MBE Gavin Neate Colin B. Jodie 💜 Greer Emma Shepherd Please complete the survey ASAP! See OP 👀 ⬇️
The clock is ticking and, frankly, we need your opinions ASAP! We're meeting The Minister for The Disabled on Monday with the sincere hope we can improve accessibility for the millions of people who need to journey, destination plan and familiarise themselves with the layout and facilities of a location before they physically visit. We're confident that our legal opinion* from the wonderful Louise Mankau of Doughty Street Chambers will help us win the day BUT, we need more hard evidence that it's not just a legal right but, there's a real need too. It will only take a minute of your work break but, please 🙏 complete our short survey if you ever have the need to journey or destination plan to reduce real anxiety or, care for someone who does. Feel free to share the link to family, colleagues and friends too. Thank you Chris Wood Director Link to (very short) survey https://lnkd.in/eJ7a4vxT *Link to legal opinion https://lnkd.in/ej3gyxSD (Not to be used, shared or reproduced in whole or part for commercial use without our Directors express written consent)

Six common mistakes made by some mainstream NGO’s when seeking to align their funded PURPOSE with local Aboriginal community's needs 1. Lack of Meaningful Consultation Fail to involve the Aboriginal community in decision-making processes, resulting in projects that do not meet community needs or aspirations. 2. Ignoring Community Needs Prioritise organisational agendas over understanding and addressing the specific needs and aspirations of the Aboriginal community, leading to projects that are not relevant or beneficial. 3. Neglecting Community-Driven Objectives Overlook the importance of prioritising community-driven objectives in favor of organisational objectives, which can lead to projects that lack community support and fail to achieve desired outcomes. 4. Surface Level Understanding of Motivations Fail to deeply reflect on the underlying motivations driving projects in the Aboriginal space, which can result in initiatives that are driven more by organisational interests than genuine community needs. 5. Tokenistic Engagement Engage with the Aboriginal community in a tokenistic manner, such as through superficial consultations or minimal involvement, which undermines trust and leads to projects that do not effectively serve the community. 6. Use R'DAGED instead of GEDDAR R'DAGED focuses on quick, standardised solutions with minimal community input, prioritising efficiency and compliance over flexibility and adaptation. Reflection and feedback are limited, restricting responsiveness to community’s mom-identified needs. GEDDAR approach is inclusive, flexible, and culturally sensitive, focusing on long-term impact through continuous feedback, accountability, and adaptable, community-centred solutions that empower local Aboriginal communities. PURPOSE is one of seven keys to successfully engaging, connecting and building strong and sustainable relationships with your local Aboriginal community. Are you curious about how your NGO navigates the delicate balance R'DAGED and GEDDAR ? Click on the link https://lnkd.in/gtKEzrzn and get some feedback on your current approach.

Ever wondered how many talented professionals are held back by the invisible ‘paper ceiling’—and how corporate alumni programs could be the key to unlocking their potential? The paper ceiling—a barrier that holds back talented professionals without formal degrees—continues to exclude valuable talent from corporate environments. Many individuals have built exceptional skills through life experiences, yet their contributions are often overlooked simply because they don’t fit the traditional mold. A recent post highlights the need to rethink how we value experience, especially as the workforce evolves. With the Great Resignation creating new opportunities to bring fresh talent into companies, there’s never been a more critical time to reassess how we define and nurture talent. Corporate alumni programs can be game-changers. They facilitate career growth and mentoring and create inclusive spaces where real-world experience is valued as much as formal education. Companies can expand these networks into a broader pool of competent professionals. If your organization is ready to move beyond degrees and unlock the potential of your alumni community, let’s connect. I’d be happy to discuss how corporate alumni strategies can help you build stronger, more diverse teams that help businesses maximize the value of their most important asset—people. #CorporateAlumni #PaperCeiling #GreatResignation #InclusiveGrowth #Mentorship #TalentStrategy #AlumniNetworks
I really didn't tell anyone until I was 35. So, what is the paper ceiling, and why is this such a critical conversation for STARs and recruiters today?
