Difficult conversations are everywhere—in our workplaces, our homes, and our communities. Over the years, through facilitating conversations, coaching leaders, and learning from my own missteps, we've discovered that the hardest conversations aren't just about the words we say. They're about the mindset we bring, the emotions we navigate, and the relationships we want to preserve or repair. This week on the blog, our founder, Sarah Noll Wilson, brings you five lessons she has learned about navigating difficult conversations that might help you approach them with more confidence and care. #QuestionForTheDay #LeadershipDevelopment #ExecutiveCoaching How well do you listen to yourself? My daughter often shares her day with us—not for a response, but simply to express herself. In that sharing, she gains clarity about her experiences, thoughts, and emotions. It’s a reminder that listening isn’t just about others—it’s about hearing ourselves. As leaders, we’re taught to listen to others, but how often do we create space to listen to our own thoughts? In today’s fast-paced world, our minds are constantly racing, but the real question is: What are we telling ourselves? Are our thoughts empowering or limiting? Coaching is a powerful way for one to tune in. A coach helps reflect our words back to us, leading to greater self-awareness and clarity. And when we truly listen to ourselves, we can listen to others more effectively. How well are you listening to you?

Weekend Wonderings for Leaders In some coaching conversations this week, leaders expressed self-limiting beliefs without realizing: "I’m not good enough" or "Nothing comes easily." These beliefs, when on autopilot, can lead to anxiety, frustration and anger. Recognizing and challenging them can help rewrite our story. This weekend, ask yourself: What self-limiting belief may be holding you back? Pay attention to phrases like “I can never…” or “I always…”; they often signal beliefs ready for a rewrite. Great read on the "How?" https://lnkd.in/d8KGYFW7

Recently, I had an awesome chat with Andrea Gillespie, CPA, CHRP, CEC, and PCC, about emotions, EQ, and how crucial it is for leaders to be on top of both. I've excerpted a segment of our hour-long episode for you; Andrea chats about how leaders must establish a balance between authenticity and being intentional about their communications. The fundamental tension in practicing emotional intelligence (EQ) lies in balancing authenticity and intentionality. It involves recognizing our emotions as they arise while consciously choosing how to respond rather than solely reacting to them. The challenge is to learn how to navigate this conflict while keeping sight of both sides. The goal is to develop the capacity to experience emotions fully but with a level of mindfulness that allows us to choose our responses rather than being swept away by them. This balance is crucial for effective leadership, where the ability to connect authentically with others must be matched by the responsibility to lead with empathy and foresight. In essence, the journey toward mastering emotional intelligence is about embracing our humanity—our capacity to feel deeply and respond to the world around us—while cultivating the wisdom to manage those responses in ways that enrich rather than diminish our lives and the lives of others. It's a delicate balance, requiring ongoing effort, reflection, and a commitment to growth. Keep an eye on the space for more of my conversation with Andrea. #leadershipskills #emotionalintelligence #emotions #deliberatepractice

#alongsider meets Dr John Blakey an influencer and author ('Challenge Coaching', 'Trusted Executive' - based on his Doctorate and most recently 'Force for Good'). His Trust Executive model encourages 9 habits to build trust and groups them around - Ability, Integrity and perhaps shockingly, Benevolence. He says the latter is a heart word and literally is core to connecting and building trust, enhanced engagement and holistic strategic thinking. This is a great conversation and you will be moved to action. Restoring trust in business and the work place is a great place to start and 'evangelise' (his word) the habits of leaders everywhere. #executive #trust #businessforceforgood #transformation #goodgrowth Please see link in first comment to access this episode on all major platforms.
