Everyone deserves equitable access to public health services. CDC investments ensure that tribal health authorities can improve health and well-being in American Indian/Alaska Native communities. When residents of the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta region of southwest Alaska were faced with rising rates of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and a limited supply of vaccinations, the Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation (YKHC) worked to increase vaccine allocation and distribution to villages across rural communities in southwest Alaska. YKHC staff called village residents prior to each visit offering education and additional vaccines to ensure tribal community members were aware of the vaccine availability and educated on its importance. Many countries have mosquitoes that can carry yellow fever.
