If a few can do Sports AND Education, why should we settle for Sports OR Education as a default choice for kids who play sports? Let’s hold our student-athletes to higher standards. They are capable. Agree completely ! However, we need to build a supporting ecosystem for that ..where its not a single point of failure based on the choice made. The cultural fabric, thinking in the families, economics, sport+academics oriented schools , govt support, corporate support , acceptance. Its still difficult even for pro players to survive and grow in different sports Can we find Saurabh Netravalkars in India ? If so, we should look at how the journeys have transpired ... We should all love to see more of - -folks creating products / writing algos who are equally adept in hitting an Ace down the tennis court -folks running an enterprise business while bowling yorkers - many more ... :-) It is possible but long way ahead ...we all should look forward for it !

As read on social media, Resharing (1) had he not gone to US he would have neither got the patent, nor made it to cricket team (2) parents always said - first study and make your life, cricket to bad mein bhi khel saktey hain. Would love to see such examples in India and not the Indian examples from US

The majority of Olympic athletes in Team GB also have at least an undergraduate degree - the majority had university sport and coaching and ‘dual career’ opportunities. Hopefully as sports science grows as a subject within Indian universities, then such opportunities will develop hand in hand……..

Absolutely Saumil. Life is about balance. And sports teaches how to balance things. It is a myth we can't do both. Schools and parents need to allow kids to play. School heads and parents should make play mandatory while kids grow up. The government is making policies to make PE mandatory, waiting till it's actually implemented.

The ecosystem must support such athletes/cricketers starting from the institutions where they study. you can’t do much when the exams and cricket schedules clash and you have an unsupportive institution. the national cricket schedules could last a few months. there needs to be some form of credits and support from the various bodies to encourage talent.

6moThe problem here is, out of billion test cases, you got success in handful cases and considered it as working formula. There can be some exceptions, but in most cases, if you want to perform at max level in one field, other fields will be out of sight. You can't cross river, if you place both of your feet in two different boats.
