Through a great connection, I had the pleasure of being interviewed by a group of law students from IIUM on an assignment about Public Affairs and Corporate Communications. They asked about the challenges and solutions in the field. Some might wonder, “What would an Executive Secretary know about comms, let alone Public Affairs?”. That’s where my mantra comes in: “Don’t stick to ‘that’s not my job’—embrace every opportunity.” I’ve worked with a top corporate comms agency like H/Advisors Klareco and collaborated closely with Pharmaniaga Berhad corporate comms team on high-level events. Now, I’m making great connections with the comms team at Sapura Energy Berhad. The lesson? You can learn anything, regardless of your position. Add value beyond your job description. Speak up, share your ideas, and take initiative. We’re all untapped potential. Instead of saying, “I didn’t get any opportunity,” start with, “I can assist.” Don’t wait for your boss to notice you—there are plenty of shiny people around. From Executive to CFO: My Career Journey at Malvus Sense Sdn Bhd I’d like to share my career progression from an executive role to my current position as Chief Finance Officer also acting as HR Manager at Malvus Sense Sdn Bhd. I hope my journey can inspire and guide fresh graduates as they embark on their professional paths. Career Beginnings In 2016, I began as an Account and External Auditor at an audit firm, gaining valuable experience in accounting, auditing, taxation, and company secretarial duties. Growth and Learning Transitioning to an account executive at Malvus Sense, I expanded my skills beyond accounting to include administration and HR. Taking on these new challenges, especially during the pandemic previously, helped me grow professionally and personally. Current Role and Company Growth Today, Malvus Sense is a company well known in Malaysia’s drone industry, serving National Defense Security (ATM), PDRM, oil & gas, and private sectors. As CFO and HR Manager, I’m proud of our resilience and innovation during challenging times. On Remuneration and Work Ethic Compensation follows hard work, dedication, and contribution. While some colleagues advocate for working smart over working hard, I believe in trusting the process and giving my full commitment to the company. The knowledge and experience I have gained here are invaluable and surpass what I could have acquired elsewhere. It is crucial to continually seek knowledge and stay competitive in today’s challenging environment. Advice to Fresh Graduates Embrace Learning: Seek opportunities to expand your skills, even if they seem outside your initial scope. Adaptability: Be ready to face and adapt to challenges.
