Ronnie 'The Rocket' O’Sullivan seems to have become an honourary ambassador for Greater #China. After recently taking up a much-publicised residency of #HongKong under the city’s 'Quality Migrant Admission Scheme', and called it “a great place to live”, he has also been extolling the virtues of the country itself saying, he is “blown away” every time he visits #China, a country he calls “the greatest place on Earth”. As a well-documented Sinophile, such sentiment brings a wry smile to my face. Not being too cynical but I think we can chalk this up to the commercial opportunity that China offers the greatest #snooker player of all time. The Hong Kong tax regime is much kinder to #HNWIs than the #UK and this difference was only widened by the #British government's recent budget. Also, many of the World's biggest snooker tournaments & exhibitions in terms of prize money & appearance fees are now found in China, so from a proximity to his potential earnings perspective, it just makes sense. On a similar note, Brazilian footballer Oscar, who moved to China in 2017 and has just helped his team Shanghai Port retain the Chinese Super League title, has quietly gone about building his wealth. I am not saying this is a major trend, but it does highlight the ability of sports stars to move away from traditional sporting geographies to maintain, improve, or extend their financial success. https://lnkd.in/ePsbHrBz #Snooker #HK #CSL #ChinaSport World Snowboard Federation WST South China Morning Post SCMP Shanghai Daily Hong Kong Tourism Board Hong Kong Government 香港政府

Formula 1 in partnership with Singapore GP Pte Ltd & the Ultimate Fighting Championship have hosted world class events in Singapore. And it hosted Taylor Swift's Eras Tour as well. The city state has set aside S$165 million over the next 4 years to attract more world class events. Singapore is ranked as APAC's number 1 financial hub & number 3 in the world behind New York & London. According to the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, Singapore, the economy has committed to reduce emissions to around 60 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent by 2030. Looking at these facts, without a doubt Singapore does have the potential to host foreign/major sports events in the country. Though there is more work to be done. #singapore #singaporeeconomy #asia #apac #economics #sports #sportingevents #ufc #formula1 #sporttourism #travel #sustainability

Across many places in East and Southeast Asia such as Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Singapore, and various cities in mainland China like Guangzhou and Hangzhou, June 10 marks the much-anticipated Tuen Ng or Dragon Boat Festival, a vibrant celebration rooted in tradition and teamwork. Originating over 2,000 years ago in China, this festival is said to commemorate the life and death of the poet and minister Qu Yuan, who drowned himself in protest against corruption. Communities come together to race dragon boats, a practice that symbolizes unity, strength, and the communal spirit. The synchronized paddling of the dragon boat teams highlights the importance of coordination and collaboration, values deeply embedded in the culture and philosophy of the festival. The principles celebrated during the Dragon Boat Festival are remarkably applicable to the world of business. Much like the rowing teams that must work in perfect harmony to propel their boats forward, successful businesses rely on the cohesive effort of their teams to achieve their goals. This festival serves as a powerful reminder that in both rowing and business, individual strengths must be aligned towards a common objective to achieve optimal results. As we celebrate Tuen Ng, let's draw inspiration from its lessons on the power of teamwork, the importance of strategic alignment, and the impact of collective effort in driving success. #AsiainOlin #eaSTL

Hong Kong is taking center stage as a global hub for sports and entertainment with the upcoming Kai Tak Sports Park, set to open in the first quarter of 2025. Built on the iconic site of the former Kai Tak Airport, this ambitious project will become Hong Kong's largest sports venue, featuring a 50,000-seat Main Stadium, a 10,000-seat Indoor Arena and a 5,000-seat Public Sports Ground. Kai Tak Sports Park is expected to redefine what Hong Kong has to offer to the world, hosting major events such as the Hong Kong Sevens in March and the Coldplay concert in April, and key sports competitions during China’s 15th National Games in 2025. The Group has a large presence in Hong Kong with most clubs having offices there, drawn by the robust “one country, two systems” legal framework and supported by a strong local education system providing a rich talent base for Clubs to recruit from. We are committed to helping to improve and diversify the talent base coming into the Shipping industry and in this regard we were delighted to sign an MOU with the Hong Kong Maritime and Port Board last week. #MaritimeIndustry #HongKong #Education #TalentDevelopment #FutureGrowth

A little whimsy here. I was probably as surprised as many would be to know that the Latin root of competition is competere, which means "to strive or contend for something". More importantly, the word competere is composed of com-"together" and petere-"aim at or seek". It was only around the year 1600 that the word competition entered the English language, meaning "action of seeking or endeavouring to gain what another is endeavouring to gain at the same time". So, the original intention of the word focused on striving for something collectively but we've somehow managed to pervert this. In a country the size of Aotearoa New Zealand, it makes me wonder where and how we should be focusing our efforts......together. #collaboration #network, Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, New Zealand Trade and Enterprise
