SCGD Achieves 5-Star “Excellent” Rating in Corporate Governance for Sustainable Development SCG Decor (SCGD) has received a 5-star “Excellent CG Scoring” rating in the real estate and construction industry sector from Thailand’s 2024 Corporate Governance Report (CGR) assessment. This reflects their commitment to conducting business with transparency, fairness, and social responsibility to drive sustainable growth. The assessment was conducted by the Thai Institute of Directors Association (IOD) with support from the Stock Exchange of Thailand and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Mr. Numpol Malichai, Chief Executive Officer and President of SCG Decor Public Company Limited, or SCGD, the leading ceramic, surface materials, and sanitary ware business in ASEAN, stated that “SCGD received a score in the 1st Quartile with a level 5 ‘Excellent CG Scoring.’ This reflects our employees’ dedication toward a common goal of becoming ASEAN’s No. 1 with a growth strategy targeting double revenue by 2030, while maintaining good corporate governance in economic, social, and environmental dimensions. This builds confidence among stakeholders, investors, and institutional investors through sustainably growing performance, whether through business expansion with environmental sustainability, developing eco-friendly production processes, or using clean energy like solar cells.” The company recently launched high-value innovative products that meet various customer lifestyles, such as “Smart Flexible by COTTO or LT by COTTO” – an SPC flooring innovation that’s easy to install, convenient to use, termite-proof, 100% waterproof, with beautiful natural-looking patterns, eco-friendly, free from harmful chemicals, and features a non-firing production process. Additionally, COTTO’s ECO Collection of surface materials and tiles reduces the use of new natural resources by up to 80%, reduces greenhouse gas emissions by up to 75%, and recycles 25% of used water. For example, the ECO-SCHIZZO tile series, besides having these properties, is also free from volatile chemicals and heavy metals, reduces transportation carbon emissions, and effectively combines sustainability with innovative living solutions. This led to winning the THAILAND GREEN DESIGN AWARD 2024 in the resources efficiency category at TGDA 2024. For 2024, 808 listed companies participated in the Corporate Governance Report assessment, with an average score of 84%. This demonstrates the importance placed on sustainable business development, consideration of shareholders’ rights and equitable treatment, responsibility to stakeholders, information disclosure and transparency, and board responsibilities.

This is a personally gratifying day for me. The Flooring Sustainability Summit has been a dream for many of us since pre-pandemic. While we are still nearly six months away with much preparation remaining, today’s official “launch,” opening of registration, and seeing TCNA’s logo side by side with other major flooring associations, is making this dream feel like a reality. We will bring together the flooring industry, competitive hats aside, for engagement and to advance sustainability standardization, policy, and initiative. It’s finally an opportunity for the different flooring sectors, united, to be proactive under one roof alongside advocacy groups, standards organizations, designers, and procurement officials. In the construction sector, there is a serious need for alignment on standards/definitions, goals, and what’s feasible vs. impractical in the realm of human health and the environment. With flooring being such a major component of building interiors, this is an important opportunity for increased dialogue across a broad group of stakeholders to foster relationships, identify potential areas of harmonization, and work together to mitigate conflicting marketplace claims. Registration is open. Let’s go!!!

At GFDA, we're always inspired by innovation that drives sustainability forward, just like the insights shared in Laura Fenton's recent article in Business of Home on reducing waste during installation days. The article features design experts who have implemented creative strategies to minimize environmental impact, aligning closely with our mission at GFDA. 🔍 Key Strategies Highlighted: -Separating Waste: Designers emphasize the importance of sorting materials like cardboard, plastics, and Styrofoam to ensure proper disposal and recycling. -Efficient Coordination: Assigning dedicated staff for procurement and installation coordination can drastically reduce waste and improve overall project efficiency. -Local Sourcing: Utilizing local resources not only supports community businesses but also reduces shipping waste and carbon footprint. These practices resonate deeply with GFDA’s ethos of collaboration, education, and dedication to sustainability. We champion these methods within our community, urging members to think globally while acting locally, and always striving to lessen our environmental impact. Join us as we continue to push for sustainability in every aspect of design. Together, we can make significant strides towards reducing our industry's waste and enhancing our environmental stewardship. Another great example of how architectural firms are attacking the climate crisis and establishing carbon reducing strategies and specification standards. Gensler has made this information available to everyone 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 to use, so an essential source of information for smaller firms without the infrastructure and people to dedicate time to develop their own material Libraries in this way. It’s interesting to see how different firms are approaching product and material sustainability and specifications. Designers and architects are in a prime position to make big steps in carbon reduction through the products and materials that are specified, and other environmental sustainability strategies. #environment #circulareconomy #carbonnegative #sustainability #construction #specifications #architects #designers Australian Institute of Architects Australian Health Design Council Design Institute of Australia Architectus
