Rounding out the afternoon of #SFH2024 was a fireside chat on the use of health data for research purposes in Belgium (moderated by Liesbet M. PEETERS and a keynote from AI guru Geertrui Mieke De Ketelaere. Mieke shared her “10 commandments” of AI, including: 🤖Invest in hybrid AI systems with reasoning capabilities 🤖Request transparency in all systems 🤖Appoint human AI translators The program culminated with a roundtable discussion moderated by Bart Vannieuwenhuyse on how Belgium stacks up in the use of AI in healthcare and drug discovery. Some sage wisdom was offered by the panelists: 🔹Ann Van Gysel, MEDVIA: “Collaboration culture is essential for building a vibrant AI ecosystem. Belgium will benefit from being more open to this.” 🔹Valerie Vandeweerd, Monsana: “We have the right talent, in clinical and tech; it’s a matter of getting them together to work on the same cause.” 🔹Ward Servaes, moveUP - digital therapies: “Belgium doesn’t have access to enough data, but the new Belgian Health Data Agency could help with this.” 🔹Sari Depreeuw, Crowell & Moring: “Streamlining procedures would be immensely helpful.” 🔹 Jack Scannell, Etheros Pharmaceuticals: “It’s important for us to build on our strengths, not just do what we think will make the most money.” #sfh2024 #AI #bigdata #digitalhealth #healthinnovation #healthtech #medtech #biotech MEDVIA BioWin

Building Trust in AI for Health: Addressing Fear Through Robust Regulation Day 2 at the #AHTS2024, where I connected with BRIAN O'CONNOR here are my initial thoughts and of those attending. *An independent survey highlighted a recurring theme: fear—a barrier we must address to make AI integration in healthcare a reality. *Just as patients accept antibiotics due to established regulatory frameworks and government backing, we need robust regulation for AI in health. *This will build trust, ensuring patients and end-users feel safe using AI-powered health tools. *The path to a responsible AI ecosystem lies in creating policies that dissuade fear and promote widespread acceptance. #HealthTech #ResponsibleAI #AfricaHealthTech #AIinHealthcare

🚨 Last chance to register! Tomorrow at 4:30 PM GMT, we’re hosting our latest webinar: Make Health Data Great Again: AI-Driven OMOP Data Standardization at 100M-Patient Scale for Accelerating Target Identification. The problem? Over 80% of health data is unavailable for R&D and typically it takes 6-18 months to turn raw data into usable ready for research. This results in significant delays to the process for target identification and validation in drug discovery. The solution? Using the OMOP common data model to standardize fragmented biomedical data enables researchers to query datasets spanning millions of patients across organisations and disease domains. Join our webinar to: ✅ Learn how the OMOP data model simplifies and scales biomedical data standardization. ✅ See Lifebit’s Trusted Data Lakehouse in action during a live demo. ✅ Gain insights into AI-powered data harmonization. Happy Wednesday LinkedIn family, Let's dive right into Day 3 of my conference insights sharing. Today, we're looking at a realm bursting with potential and promise, i.e. the integration of Artificial Intelligence in healthcare (HIMSS24). Though in its infancy, the excitement and momentum around this advancement are unbelievable, with pioneering organizations and AI innovators steering us towards a transformative future. Here's what's crystal clear right from the get-go: *AI Integration - An Unquestionable Imperative - The consensus couldn't be more vibrant, i.e. integrating AI into healthcare is not an option but an absolute necessity. A broad horizon of opportunities awaits to enhance patient care and streamline operations like never before. *Rolling Up Our Sleeves - Yes, it is guarantee that there is a mountain of work lies ahead; but isn't that the hallmark of all meaningful journeys? Laying the groundwork for AI in healthcare is a challenge we're ready to embrace with vigor and dedication. *Ethics and Privacy - Our North Star - Navigating this new terrain, we're guided by the principles of ethics and privacy. Establishing robust governance frameworks to protect patient privacy and ensure ethical AI applications is crucial. It's about doing what is right to those we serve. *Unity in Diversity - This revolution calls for unity—a collaboration of minds from clinical, IT, operational experts, executive leadership, patients, and every part of the healthcare ecosystem. It's a symphony of expertise, playing in harmony toward a common goal. *Pilot Programs - Our Laboratories of Innovation - Pilots are not just trials, they are our laboratories where ideas are refined and real-world applications are perfected. They are essential stepping stones toward widescale adoption. The future is NOW, and let's recognize the butterflies in our stomach—the natural apprehensions that accompany venturing into uncharted territory. Yes, there are fears, but the promise and hope outshine them by far. With the stakes high, driven by a growing patient population, clinical staffing shortages, and financial constraints, we must march forward. Our collective mission is clear: To revolutionize healthcare with AI, making it smarter, more effective, and genuinely patient-focused. This isn't just innovation; it's our commitment to enhancing human well-being. Together, we can make this vision a reality. #AIinHealthcare #HIMSS2024 #FutureIsNow
