With deadly airstrikes continuing in #Lebanon, authorities estimate that 1.2 million people have been displaced, while the joint IOM and UNHCR tracking shows 746,584 individuals internally displaced within Lebanon. As of today, the emergency response has included:
🚛 UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, its UN agency partners and the NGO SHEILD Association delivered relief to hard-to-reach areas in Qlayaa and Marjayoun via an inter-agency convoy. Trucks with over 1,300 critical items like blankets, mattresses, kitchen sets and solar lamps were delivered to assist those most in need.
💳 Over 268,650 Lebanese and refugees affected are now being assisted with some type of direct financial assistance, including multi-purpose and targeted support for the maintenance and utility costs of homes.
🏠 340 shelter locations across Beirut, Mount Lebanon, Bekaa, the South, North, and Akkar have been assessed, all identified as in need of repairs. Upgrading works have begun on 75 shelters, including weatherproofing, partitioning, and WASH rehabilitation, with 23 sites completed so far.
🚑 Two additional hospitals have been added to UNHCR’s network in Beirut and Mount Lebanon to accommodate additional needs following recent strikes in the region. UNHCR is also procuring 10 ambulances to support the evacuation and transfer of critical patients, complementing Lebanese Red Cross and Civil Defence services, which are overwhelmed by the surge in demand.
⚖️ In Syria, over 48,000 individuals have received legal support at the Syrian crossing points through UNHCR and its legal partners, with assistance also extended to vulnerable Iraqis and Sudanese facing immigration challenges at the border.
