🎆 Keep pets safe this Hogmanay 🎆 Hogmanay is a popular time for fireworks and it’s important to consider how to keep animals safe during this potentially distressing time for them. We recommend putting on calming music to drown out the loud bangs and whistles from fireworks. Provide your pet with comforts including quiet rooms, hiding spots, cosy bedding and their favourite toys and chews. Please be mindful if setting off fireworks this year and let any neighbours with pets know beforehand. More advice: https://lnkd.in/eSg5BHnt #Fireworks #ScottishSPCA #RescueProtectLead

Fireworks are breathtaking, but do they need to be so loud? There’s no denying the beauty and excitement of fireworks displays, especially on nights like Bonfire Night. However, as awe-inspiring as they are, the loud noise can have unintended consequences—particularly for animals. Having witnessed the unfortunate impact on startled animals, including fatal incidents, it’s hard to ignore this side of the celebration. As we enjoy these moments, maybe it’s time to consider ways to reduce the noise while still keeping the spectacle. Silent or low-noise fireworks exist and could be a meaningful step toward celebrating responsibly, minimizing risks, and ensuring the enjoyment doesn’t come at such a high cost to others. #Fireworks #BonfireNight #Responsibility #AnimalWelfare #LowNoise

Land of the Free, Home of the Brave. Wishing our community a Happy 4th of July 🇺🇸 Remember to play it safe out there this 4th of July. A few tips for a successful Holiday: 🔥Avoid Fireworks at Home: Attend public fireworks displays instead of using consumer fireworks. Fireworks can be dangerous and are best handled by professionals. 🔥Grill Safety: Keep grills away from buildings, decks, and overhanging branches. Never leave a grill unattended while in use, and ensure children and pets are kept at a safe distance. 🔥Proper Disposal of Fireworks: If you do use fireworks, soak them in water before disposing of them to prevent any accidental fires. 🔥Campfire Caution: When camping, build campfires in a designated fire pit away from dry grass and leaves. Always have a bucket of water or a shovel nearby to extinguish the fire completely before leaving the site. 🔥Sparklers Safety: If using sparklers, keep them away from the body, clothes, and hair. Provide a bucket of water for extinguishing spent sparklers. 🔥Pet Safety: Fireworks can be distressing to pets. Keep them indoors in a safe and quiet environment to prevent them from running away or getting injured. #WearSomethingSafer #RicochetGear #ThankYouFirstResponders #CommunityHeroes #FirefighterAppreciation #FourthOfJulyHeroes #FirstResponderPride

“Fireworks seem to go on for weeks every year and can start at unexpected times. This can lead to guide dog owners having to change their routines and always ensure they are home every evening to try and protect their guide dog.” Tonight is bonfire night and we’re urging people not to buy and set off their own fireworks this year, and instead attend organised local displays. Such events adhere to set times and dates so allow guide dog owners and other dog owners to prepare. Our new poll suggests that more than a quarter of working guide dogs have a significant negative reaction to fireworks and a further 12% of owners stated that their guide dogs are noticeably uncomfortable when fireworks are going off nearby. It's #Hogmanay which means there will be fireworks! 🎇 As you'll know, it's important to keep your pets safe, so here's a few words of advice from us to ensure they remain calm: 🎆 Ensure your dog/cat has somewhere to hide (build a den under furniture or in a cupboard with their favourite things) 🎆 Walk dogs during the day, not when it's dark 🎆 Keep dogs/cats inside and draw the curtains 🎆 Keep them distracted with toys/rewarding games 🎆 Play music to drown out the sound of the fireworks 🎆 Do not punish your dog for their reactions to the fireworks 🎆 Give comfort if they seek reassurance 🎆 If your pets live outside, partly cover their cages with blankets (leaving a gap for them to see out) & provide extra bedding to burrow in 🎆 Make sure your house & garden are secure Happy New Year and stay safe! #fireworksadvice #petadvice #newyear

Tips to keep animals safe on bonfire night 💡🎆 Many animals find fireworks scary. Owners will often see their pets struggling, however, there are ways you can help them. For Dogs 🐶 ✔️ Walk your dog during daylight hours to avoid times when fireworks are likely to be set off. ✔️ Move your dog to a safe-haven and provide toys and other things they enjoy. ✔️ Close windows and curtains to muffle the sound of fireworks. ✔️ Put on some music or TV to mask the sounds of the fireworks. ✔️ Ignore the firework noises yourself. Play with a toy to see if your dog wants to join in, but don't force them to play. For Cats 😺 ✔️ Provide hiding places in your home. e.g. under furniture or a quiet corner. ✔️ Don't stress your cat by trying to tempt them out. Leave them until they're ready. ✔️ Keep them indoors to avoid them becoming stressed. For Small Animals 🐰 ✔️ Partially cover outside cages and pens with blankets so it's soundproofed and hidden, leaving an area for animals to look out. ✔️ Provide bedding for small animals to burrow in. Consider bringing them indoors. #petsonbonfirenight #bonfirenight2024

“We can’t go out when there are fireworks on. We were caught out last year in Manchester while visiting family. We left early at 1pm, but the train broke down, so we were stuck for hours. By the time we got back, it was already dark. It was awful. Eddie was trying to hide in shop doorways and wouldn’t walk. He was still so frightened the next day. He didn’t want to go out, didn’t want to eat” Guide dog owner Amanda with guide dog Eddie. Ahead of Bonfire night weekend, our new poll suggests that more than a quarter of working guide dogs have a significant negative reaction to fireworks 🎆 26% of guide dog owners reported that their guide dogs show signs of fear and distress when hearing fireworks, with a range of reactions such as trembling, pacing, panting or barking. A further 12% of owners stated that their guide dogs are noticeably uncomfortable when fireworks are going off nearby. We’re urging people to attend organised local displays this year. Such events adhere to set times and dates so allow guide dog owners and other dog owners to prepare.
