As a founder, it’s always easy to look at “successful” start-ups and be in awe or even envious. But the reality is that entrepreneurship is about enduring pain and having the tenacity to persevere when the going gets tough. The romanticization of the start-up journey by the media with the depiction of founders raising billions of dollars and knocking Champagne glasses has caused many founders to neglect the real truth about been a founder – it is bloody hard. Entrepreneurship is a state of mind. This means that it isn’t for everyone. So here are 6 questions to ask yourself before taking the leap into building out your idea: 1. What is the market you will be entering? 2. How big is it? 3. Is it growing? 4. Who will you be competing against? Can any of those competitors be collaborators? 5. How will your solution be differentiated and compelling to users and buyers? 6. Is the technology scalable and can it evolve to address future market conditions? I am building Africa's largest start-up campus to help Africa-focused founders build thriving and innovative companies across 12 sectors. Our purpose is to significantly impact local economies, accelerate social development and create new start-up opportunities by speeding up the pace of change and growth through entrepreneurship. At Founders Yard, we are bringing together previously disparate community of start-up supporters, programmes, initiatives and creating one open, legible way for high-performing founders from across the region and the diaspora to access the best Capital , Content and Community to help them succeed.

Excellent #socent related paper by our colleague Timo van Balen and co-author Murat Tarakci with clear implications for social startups. By emphasizing a social vision in the recruitment procedure, #startups miss out on valuable candidates. The social vision is not in line with the career advancement opportunities that candidates expect at a startup. Nevertheless, offering an attractive salary or equity package can change this. If you offer more compensation, there is a better balance between career perspective and social impact for potential employees. 📼 Check out the video in which Timo explains the research findings and entrepreneurs provide comments: https://lnkd.in/eBEF6Ksb 📰 Or read the article (includes links to the paper and HBR coverage) on the U.S.E. website: https://lnkd.in/eudzK3vG #Entrepreneurship #socialentrepreneurship #socialbusiness Entrepreneurship @ Utrecht University School of Economics Social Enterprise NL Social Impact Factory impact030 Scentiss Community UtrechtInc Utrecht University Centre for Entrepreneurship

As entrepreneurs, we all need guidance and support to navigate the journey. Mentors can be the key to unlocking success, and I am grateful for the ones who have helped me along the way. I have been fortunate enough to foster meaningful relationships with mentors from my previous jobs, who have become instrumental in the development of my consultancy. Mentorship is a two-way street, and I have also had the opportunity to pay it forward by mentoring others. It is important to recognize the value of mentorship, especially for those who are embarking on new projects. If you are in need of a mentor or looking to be one, let's connect. I am open to continuing to learn and grow alongside others. #mentorship #entrepreneurship #consultancy

Entrepreneur? What everyone told you: - You can’t. - You’re breaking the rules. - Really, you can’t. - Just go to college. - Too risky. - Most startups fail. - You need more experience. - It's not a good time to start a business. - You can’t compete with established businesses. - Get a stable job. - Why can’t you just be normal? - You'll work all the time and have no personal life. - Nobody will buy what you're selling. - You don't have the right connections to make it big. What no one told you: - You can. - Rules only work for traffic. - Really, you can. - Study at the university of YouTube. - Great risks, great rewards. - Most startups aren’t you. - Volunteer. Get a mentor. - Passion and purpose set the timeline. - Established businesses don’t have the agility to compete with you. - Stable job? What’s that? - Why can’t everyone else just think differently? - You'll definitely have to work until you learn to delegate. - Only if you don’t show them why they need it. - Connect with one person. And then another. And another. For every reaction, an action. Just start. ♻️ Repost to your network, add comments and follow me PJ Lewis for more.

In a world where tech giants are born in dorm rooms and billion-dollar companies are built by individuals, the question is no longer if you can be an entrepreneur, but when will you take the leap? The increasing focus on entrepreneurial skills and the potential to build startups, especially in tech-related fields, is not just a trend—it's a revolution. The Stats Are Clear: - 65% of children entering primary school today will end up working in completely new job types that don’t yet exist. - By 2030, it’s estimated that more than a third of the desired skills for most jobs will be comprised of skills that are not yet considered crucial to the job today. But Here’s the Thing: Entrepreneurial skills aren’t just for entrepreneurs. They’re for anyone looking to future-proof their career in a rapidly changing job market. Whether you’re a seasoned professional or just starting out, the ability to innovate, adapt, and lead is more valuable than ever. So, What Can You Do? 1. Upskill: Invest in learning new skills, especially those that are in high demand in tech-related fields. 2. Network: Connect with entrepreneurs and professionals in your desired field to learn from their experiences. 3. Experiment: Don’t be afraid to try new ideas and projects. It’s often the best way to learn and grow. The Question Is: What’s holding you back from taking the first step towards building your own startup or developing entrepreneurial skills? #Entrepreneurship #FutureOfWork #TechStartups #CareerDevelopment #Innovation #StartupLife #ProfessionalGrowth
