How do you handle ash from power plant operations? 🏭💡 Whenever energy is produced by burning solid fuels the result is a considerable amount of bottom ash. When bottom ash is extracted from the boiler some of the bed material, most typically sand, gets removed also. In the ~2 bn tons of municipal solid waste globally, ~6 m tons are aluminum cans - they are valuable and easy to recycle, with recyling rates globally at ~70%! Cans are collected and recycled in both countries with developed waste infrastructure, and in emerging countries with less infrastructure (the informal sector is here the main contributor). Together with the International Aluminium Institute, Roland Berger has developed a market study to understand detailed flows of used aluminum cans in selected countries (Australia, Cambodia, South Korea, Thailand, UAE & Vietnam) and derived strategic levers to increase global recycling rates to 90% by 2030. #recycling #aluminumrecycling #wastepickers #recyclingthailand #recyclingvietnam #recyclingaustralia
