Actions speak louder than policies! On the CRIN-VIN project, we prioritize everyone’s right to be involved in matters that impact them. Peacebuilding must be community-centered to be truly sustainable and effective. Here’s a quick checklist for inclusive program development: 1. Accessibility for All: Ensure your events include women, PWDs, youth, elderly, and all relevant stakeholders. 2. No Segregation: Everyone deserves a voice, regardless of their background. 3. Clear Communication: Use simple language and offer translations where needed. 4. Venue Suitability: Choose accessible and culturally appropriate locations. 5. Diverse representation: Ensure planning teams reflect the community’s diversity. 6. Inclusive Outreach: Use traditional and digital methods to reach all groups. 7. Cultural Sensitivity: align programs with local values and customs. 8. Ongoing Feedback: Continuously gather input, especially from underrepresented voices. 9. Capacity Building: Equip marginalized groups to actively participate in peace efforts. True inclusion leads to sustainable change! #peacebulding #eunigerdelta

For many years, the Niger Delta has been faced with multi-dimensional security issues, such as environmental degradation, poverty, political instability, unemployment, exclusion, intercommunal clashes, militarization, insecurity and economic instability. These challenges pushed the inhabitants of the region to seek alternative means of survival, leading to involvement in all forms of criminality, including cultism, armed robbery, piracy and oil bunkering. Search, Foundation for Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta - PIND, SDN and AAPW are working on the European Union in Nigeria-funded Community Approach to Transforming Criminality and Violence in the Niger Delta. #betternigerdelta #EU #SFCG #nigeria

Enhancing Post-Boko Haram Transitional Justice Processes in Northeast Nigeria Transitional justice (TJ) is becoming increasingly relevant for reconciliation, healing, and national cohesion across Africa. In Nigeria, despite a flawed and limited experience with this practice, transitional justice and its constitutive elements are gaining traction as a non-military response to the Boko Haram crisis in the Northeast. Nonetheless, there is a notable understanding gap between TJ implementers and the process’ intended beneficiaries, with the latter’s view of the process being progressively negative. This article, which is based on extensive fieldwork in Nigeria’s Northeast between October 2022 and June 2023 explores this misalignment and proposes recommendations for optimizing TJ implementation in response to the crises in the region. 📝https://lnkd.in/dZR8NRzW (Centre for Democracy and Development) #CenterForaAdvocacyAndGlobalGrowth

On Wednesday, February 28, 2024, Nextier joined Search For Common Ground Nigeria at the National launch of the Freedom of Religion or Belief (FoRB) project. As a research partner for the FoRB project, Nextier signed an MOU with Search to track early warning signs of violent conflict in Nigeria utilising the Nextier Violent Conflict Database and advocate for research-based policy options in promoting, managing, and implementing peacebuilding programs in Nigeria. Nextier has tracked and recorded violent conflict in Nigeria since 2020. The Nextier Violent Conflict Database collates violent conflict incidents across Nigeria from field sources and media-reported violent conflict incidents daily. The Nextier Violent Conflict Database provides detailed insights into violent conflicts in Nigeria for research, policy advocacy, development, and security. As a result, the database is a goldmine for crucial sector players and decision-makers looking to implement evidence-based prevention and mitigation strategies in the face of Nigeria’s rising violent conflicts. ______ Olive Aniunoh | Samuel Oluwajobi | Joshua Biem | Kenneth Maduagwu | Ndidi Anyanwu | Ndubuisi N. ‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️ THE BAWKU CONFLICT: IT'S NEXUS WITH VIOLENT EXTREMISM AND TERRORISM (VET) ----------------------------------------------------------- ● Over the years, the Northern regions of Ghana have faced prolonged unresolved chieftaincy and ethnic conflicts. ● The unending Bawku conflict has resulted in tensions affecting general security, governance and public service delivery and economic livelihoods of the people living in those areas as well as the development of communities in the area. Currently a curfew has been imposed on Bawku and all courts in the UER of Ghana have been closed down. ● Despite several conflict resolution mechanisms in the past, no lasting solution has been found to the conflict. The current escalation of violence undermines previous peace efforts. ● Ghana's proximity to Burkina Faso exposes Bawku to VE and possible recruitment by VEGs. The conflict constitutes a direct threat and opportunity for extremist exploitation. ● Similarly, governance issues such as bad and unmotorable roads, lack of potable drinking water, inadequate healthcare and educational facilities and unemployment make the youth vulnerable to extremist exploitation. ● With the growing incidents of VET from the Sahel to littoral states like Ghana, Bawku could become a safe haven for VEGs if efforts are not taken to effectively address the prolonged conflict. ● Whiles government institutes measures to address the conflict, a greater responsibility lies on the leadership of both sides to the conflict to be deliberate and purposeful at resolving the conflict themselves. ● That is to say, the people of Bawku (including the political elite, indigenes, women and youth) should remain committed themselves to finding lasting peace in Bawku, as this will compliment the efforts of the government and other external actors aimed at finding lasting peace to the conflict. Until this commitment is seen, unfortunately all other efforts will yield minimal results. #Bawku4Peace #DomesticSecurity #RegionalSecurity #GlobalSecurity #UofG #CheveningScholarship

My greatest salute to the #FixTheCountryMovement on their demonstration to government that we seek the government head to provide frequent updates on the state of what's happening with our waterbodies as he declared he'll put his presidency on the line. What is going on King? Must it be late before we hear your frequent updates? Any influential individuals concerned about Ghana am sure by now, know this is a worthy cause to support with finance and humans. Good enough, this demonstration had a clear goal to save your lives, the lives of your children and the heritage of what has been left off by the ancestors. We pray more of such as the months draw near and with a stronger voice. NB: A good demonstration must have a clear mission without broad mandate such as "fix the country". First I heard such a broad demonstration, I asked - what need government fix in the country? This time, fix the galamsey or license miners killing and deforming citizens in their own country in the name of mining. Again, good job Guardians. #Africa #Ghana #PurposefulDemonstration #WaterDestructions #SDG6 #MayDay #Focus
